Hello,

My 2004 ttr has developed a rattle. Its actually more of a jingle that happens when the engine is not under load. I wondered if it could be the clutch plates having worn tabs but any thoughts would be welcome before dismantling anything.

Thanks Alex

does the noise go away when you pull the clutch lever in ?
also does the noise change with either engine speed or road speed ?

The rattle stops when I pull in the clutch but the engine revs drop as well.

It happens on the road when the engine stops pulling and stops again under load.

Dont think its engine mounts.

Maybe a loose kick-start mechanism? The banshee's are famous for having noisy kick-starters so maybe the TTR can as well

Dont think its the kick start or the chain so I think Ill fit a clutch and see if that cures it.

Thanks for the input. Alex.

This sounds a lot like cam chain rattle.

If fixing the clutch does not fix it I would suggest to check cam chain, guides, sprockets, tensioner. Replace anything that has too much wear and also check the guides for cracks.

You can use a piece of garden hose as a mechanic's stethoscope by holding one end to your ear and the other to where you think the noise is coming from.
