I have only just bought a TTR to use as a single track bike..

not had a play with it yet... So relateing back to other bikes

I have owned.....

there nothing on here about suspension set up...

So what I have manged to google...

the standard rear spring is a 4.2kg/mm which works best with a 150lbs rider  "so they say"

going by that I would estamate you should be looking at a rear spring in 5.0 to 5.2kg/mm

a rear spring should have no more than 20mm of pre-load... if you need to crank the

pre-load up more its to light.....

the TTR has 275mm of wheel travel.. when you are on the bike the suspension should

compress about 85mm under your weight "85mm is the rider sag/ 35% of the travel"

keep in mined suspension has to have travel in both directions..

Another thing to keep in mind... if one end compress more or less than the other

under your weight it's going to change the trail & rake of the forks..

Hi guys, New to the form biggrin. I'm new to the off-roading world and i'm looking for my first bike! I'm falling in love with the TTR series. I'm looking for a fun bike, Good MPG's, Just for long distance trail riding nothing hardcore. The TTR 250 seems to be perfect for me. I heard they can get around 70-80 MPG, Sounds great but is that true? Also I'm 6'1-ish 250lb, I'm afraid i'm too heavy for the TTR-250, I read online the weight limit is 190lb no. Anyways I think the TTR is the best bang for your buck. As long as i'm not too heavy you'll have a hardcore TTR fan right here aww.

I am the same weight as you. I think if you are really "trail riding nothing hardcore" then you will be fine. I jump mine a little and seem to manage fine. If you are new to off-roading and on your first dirtbike, you will love the TTR (I see you MAY already love it). I hope you ride it for a bit before you spend the $$$ on a lowering kit. The mileage will vary so much off road, you may end up with 30MPG if you have a lead wrist. Don't forget that tires spin more offroad, and so the actual mileage will not always be right on if you are into what most of us do in the dirt!.evileye

I feel the TTR has enough power to go most anywhere, without the 2stroke mess and whiskey-throttle. For a beginner, the 4stroke's power is easier to manage. You should be happy with a TTR-in-the-rocks.

..my2cents..
