Boston is a great place, try the lobster rolls if you get back that way, there's a good place on the dockside just over the bridge....close to where the tea party was..... NY is a surprising state , not what I expected either beautiful in the fall ! Don't forget to try out the BBQ go for the brisket .....I would try it all but I like the burnt end best ....it's not a pastie though!
So far we have driven through these states: New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana and Illinois.
We have used over 60 gallons of petrol and still have 3 weeks left of the holiday
A very nice man took us to see his friend's classic car collection in his Boss Mustang - sorry the pic isn't better and that you can't fabulous sound the engine made
Still not seen any TTRs but I guess they aren't interstate bikes....
Wow Brian did you get to drive it ? Try Popeyes fried chicken (spicy) don't forget the biscuit ! And if you pass a cold stone creamery I would most certainly stop by there too
Omaha is about the furthest we will go - possibly - plans are fluid
My mate has bought some 289 small block 5-bolt (important apparently!) Ford engines to get back to the UK. The first pick up in Indianapolis went pear shaped as it turned out to be a 6-bolt engine. The compensation was the ride in the Boss Mustang
We are about 30 miles from the next engine.
Surprised to find the time zone has changed in Illinois and we have gained an hour
Brian
PS Trish has gone to visit family in London so will be away for the weekend so expect slow replies to emails.
We have now made our way from New York to Omaha NE via Boston MA - over 2,000 miles so far. Very hot here for an Exeter boy - nearly 90F or 32C !
We woke up this morning to a thunderstorm. Absolutely chucking it down outside!
So far, the engine pick up has not gone well. Despite assurances, the first two were "6 bolt" and my mate specifically asked for "5 bolt" blocks so we haven't got any yet
The next guy has 3 available and seems to know his onions so we are confident they are the right ones!
Engines are small block Ford V8s which would be interesting to fit in a TTR
Missing the UK - not seen a pasty for a fortnight
Brian
,,,Watch the language boys, a "pasty" means something rather different in this neck of the desert
I have a 1979 302ci that came out of my old truck (Ranger/F150) I STILL own. Bought in the 80's and would rather take a whooooopin than get rid of her. LongWide bed C-9 trans, 3.25 rear gear (not positive on bolt??) and still runs when I need her.
I think I remember you saying you were after 5 bolt 289 which would make that a early 60's or so block? right? I am just shooting from the hip at a date and I am sure someone will later prove me wrong. Wish I would have known what you were after, there may be some of that stuff around here?? never know.
ANYHEW, hope you found what you were after here in the new world...
God bless you in your journey back to the mother shop, errr... aah mother ship ...or plane (whatever)?
My mate sorted himself out with three engines so the trip was worthwhile from his point of view apart from the sight seeing! They are from the late 50s early 60s after which they went to 6 bolt apparently.
Anyways up, we are home now after our 7,341 mile road trip with a final visit to Ground Zero.
In need of some R&R now...
A big public thank you to my lovely wife Trish who seems to have kept the Totally TTRs ship afloat in my absence!
