Greetings from the USA!

Arrived safely at Newark, NY, on Monday evening after a long and boring journey.

Did a bit of organising and travelling on Tuesday. Poured down with rain from mid morning for the rest of the day. Roads were running with water cry

We had an easy day today (Wednesday). Weather absolutely lovely. Looked around Boston and then headed Southwest.

Countryside not at all what I expected – thousands of acres of natural forest all the way.

We used 30 gallons of petrol by tea time today which gives an idea of mileage covered.

Stopping overnight at Wilkes-Barr, PA.

Got about 650 miles to travel tomorrow to Indiana for our first  "visit"

Good to see the forum busy wink

Cheers

Brian

It's great to hear from you, Brian.

You're seem to be experiencing severe American style drought - similar to Devon's. biggrin

Good luck in your adventures.

Sorry to have missed you Dave - we went very close to New York a couple of times!

Not sure we will get to Texas Greg cry

Only seen Harleys and the like so far - no TTRs! Love the trucks.....

Hoping to see some flat track racing - maybe June 29th at Lima.

Another lovely day. Staying overnight at Columbus. Delayed by a puncture this morning - nail in tyre cry

So its Indianapolis tomorrow biggrin

Which route did you take to get to Boston? I am In the Utica, NY area, not New York City if that's what you were going for

Boston is a great place, try the lobster rolls if you get back that way, there's a good place on the dockside just over the bridge....close to where the tea party was.....
NY is a surprising state , not what I expected either beautiful in the fall !
Don't forget to try out the BBQ go for the brisket .....I would try it all but I like the burnt end best ....it's not a pastie though!

Have fun Brian

So far we haven't ventured far from the interstates. Sitting in Burger King using the facilities at the moment wink

About 45 miles to go to our first pickup point in Indianapolis.

Many thanks!

So far we have driven through these states: New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana and Illinois.

We have used over 60 gallons of petrol and still have 3 weeks left of the holiday biggrin

A very nice man took us to see his friend's classic car collection in his Boss Mustang - sorry the pic isn't better and that you can't fabulous sound the engine made wink

Still not seen any TTRs but I guess they aren't interstate bikes....

Nope didn't get to drive it.

Omaha is about the furthest we will go - possibly - plans are fluid biggrin

My mate has bought some 289 small block 5-bolt (important apparently!) Ford engines to get back to the UK. The first pick up in Indianapolis went pear shaped as it turned out to be a 6-bolt engine. The compensation was the ride in the Boss Mustang wink

We are about 30 miles from the next engine.

Surprised to find the time zone has changed in Illinois and we have gained an hour confuse

Brian

PS Trish has gone to visit family in London so will be away for the weekend so expect slow replies to emails.

We have now made our way from New York to Omaha NE via Boston MA - over 2,000 miles so far. Very hot here for an Exeter boy - nearly 90F or 32C !

We woke up this morning to a thunderstorm. Absolutely chucking it down outside!

So far, the engine pick up has not gone well. Despite assurances, the first two were "6 bolt" and my mate specifically asked for "5 bolt" blocks so we haven't got any yet confuse

The next guy has 3 available and seems to know his onions so we are confident they are the right ones!

We witnessed a tragic accident from the Interstate yesterday. See http://www.nydailynews.com/news/national/killed-stunt-plane-crashes-ohio-officials-article-1.1379904

Hi Brian,

Good to see you are having fun!

Trish is doing a sterling job back at TTR Towers - you'd almost think she runs the place herself the rest of the time!!

Thanks for that Tiddler - I may stay over here in the US and get Trish to wire over some $$ occasionally wink

Reached Boulder, Colorado this evening. 2,700 miles from start.

We can see the Rocky mountains and hopefully we will get up close and personal with them tomorrow.

Blisteringly hot - reached 105F (over 40C) coming across the Kansas plains today - the aircon in the Jeep couldn't keep up.

Brian

Rocky Mountains are stunning! Sadly the Boulder Falls was closed coz of rock falls.

Off to see Old Faithful geyser in Yellowstone tomorrow.

We are still alive and have covered about 4,500 miles so far.

Saw a rodeo last night - amazing stuff and very entertaining - it was this one

Still over a week left to fill after dropping engines off at Chicago container port.

I presume that not one of your engines that will reach Chicago by mid-afternoon would be a suitable replacement for a TTR 250? no

Shame - all that way, all that time, all that expense and No pasties, No TTR engines. hmm

Seems a bit of a waste really - and I'm green with envy! dohevileyebiggrinbiggrinbiggrin

However, you are obviously enjoying your adventure.

We have arrived at Chicago.

Engines are small block Ford V8s which would be interesting to fit in a TTR confuse

Missing the UK - not seen a pasty for a fortnight no

,,,Watch the language boys, a "pasty" means something  rather different in this neck of the desertdisbeliefbiggrin

I have a 1979 302ci that came out of my old truck (Ranger/F150) I STILL own. Bought in the 80's and would rather take a whooooopin than get rid of her. LongWide bed C-9 trans, 3.25 rear gear (not positive on bolt??) and still runs when I need her.

I think I remember you saying you were after 5 bolt 289 which would make that a early 60's or so block? right? I am just shooting from the hip at a date and I am sure someone will later prove me wrong. Wish I would have known what you were after, there may be some of that stuff around here?? never know.

ANYHEW, hope you found what you were after here in the new world...

God bless you in your journey back to the mother shop, errr... aah mother ship ...or plane (whatever)?

Hi Greg

My mate sorted himself out with three engines so the trip was worthwhile from his point of view apart from the sight seeing! They are from the late 50s early 60s after which they went to 6 bolt apparently.

Anyways up, we are home now after our 7,341 mile road trip with a final visit to Ground Zero.

In need of some R&R now...

A big public thank you to my lovely wife Trish who seems to have kept the Totally TTRs ship afloat in my absence!

Aaaahhhh - such sweet sentiments.    heart.gif

You know Trish deserves it - if not more?  biggrinbiggrin

Pleased everything in your trip worked out satisfactorily for you, Brian.

Welcome back to the proper Devon drought season - you've brought the sun and heat back home.
