Can anyone identify where this spring is from??

Hi Guys,

While the front wheel was off on my 99 model TTR250 (getting a new tire) I removed the white plastic wind/hand guards then fitted a new brake lever and a set of 2nd hand set of bark busters which involved some "persuading" with a rubber mallet as one of the ends that goes inside the handle bar was a bit bent and tight.

The brake disc was also bit tight going in (while I was careful not to close the brake lever while the wheel was off perhaps I moved it, don't know) and required a bit of jiggling.

Anyway, all back together and (as shown in the pics) there is now a spring on my garage floor. I am assuming it came from somewhere, front brake pads??????

Any advice would be welcomed.

Thanks, Michael

That is from the brake lever. See part number 16 below...

Enjoy!

That would make sense, thanks Jarrah I will take the new lever off and refit with the spring in place.

p.s noticed your also in Aus, what state are you in? Surly I haven't posted on a UK site only to have someone else from here in Canberra have the answer?

Cheers, Michael

 I'm in Qld.

I rebuilt my bike from ''scratch'' so it was easy for me to tell where it came from. Next time make it harder wink

Enjoy!

I found my one a few days ago and wondered same thing until fitting new brake lever to my other TTR.
I think its testament to how great the TTR's are ,that even without that spring ,the front brake worked really well and i could not really tell the difference.
These days i try to only work on the bike when theres a whitish sheet underneath..Stops things bouncing very far as well.

Just a side note i fitted an MCS brake lever which seems good quality. The barkbusters you fitted are a good idea. Previously i had bent levers ,broken clutch lever perch thing (part number 2) ,and a sprained thumb etc.. The busters have already slid down the road with me sliding beside and basically no discernible damage to either bike or rider/slider..

Nice work posting the diagram Jarrah.
