Long story short.... not a life biker, did DAS last June and bought a Suzuki VStrom DL650X, absoutely fantastic adventure tourer and I'm as happy as !!! BUT its no off roader... Too heavy for anything except the gentlest green lanes.. Hence the TTR....I also have under construction (I've never ridden it) an 1983 Yamaha XS 1100 sports/tourer....
Looking forward to reading the forums and getting to know you and the bike..
I guess that will depend on whether your current exhaust is of good design and the carb jetting was sorted out to suit it.
I think sometimes a loud exhaust just makes it sound like you are going faster
Nice looking TTR by the way - and welcome to the forum
Brian
There may be some truth in that !!! I checked my my options in regard to exhaust, the dealer uses FMF like in the OP post, my mate has a DG on his, neither are legal in this state so I went for the Staintune as they are legal & have a sticker to prove it. The Staintune is 94db but to me sounds much louder, I have Staintunes on my Scrambler 91db & the Thruxton 93db...the Triumph's sound great & not loud. The TTR is just as noisy as my XR but it does seem to go slightly better than with the OEM exhaust.
I am yet to ride the DG & Staintune back to back but next time we're out we will do so. BTW the TK pipe was noted as the best for the TTR & at 94db same as the Staintune but I spoke to Terry Kelly (TK) & he is no longer making pipes at this point in time.
Still in two minds about the Staintune but at $640 au I'm keeping it on the bike for ever !!!!
That is one fine looking TTR ! Braided front cable?, What kind of plate is that underneath? You will love this site! Lots of fine advise and fun folks here.
I run a stock pipe for now and wish it was louder because nobody can hear me on the dirt. I sometimes surprise folks on the trails, by "Sneaking" up on them. NOT so safe. That being said, I agree that you can draw some (bad) attention by not even trying with a custom pipe like you currently run. You probably will have to mess with the jetting if you put the stock pipe back on. Good news is that with the help you can get here, it ain't that hard.
Guys I have a confession to make,, I have one bike too many (see above) my XS 1100 is now road ready and I just cannot part with my Strom.
Since buying the TTR I have added mirrors, tax and it has a long MOT.. I have ridden it 4 or 5 times on short road journeys and only really taken it on a trail once. In the scheme of things its the least useful (to me) bike I own and I've spent a fortune on the XS Stainless exhaust !!!!!! www.youtube.com/watch
So its up for grabs .. I only want back what I have in it which is £1,650
anyone interested ?
btw its now got the stock exhaust but the race can comes with it
