problems with the front brake and fuel consumption

Hey guys, i'm writting from Greece and i'm really excited to join the forum!

1)I bought a '94 ttr 4 months ago which appears to need a pretty good maintenance to work properly but the biggest problem seems to be the front brakes

The previous owner had installed a yamaha fazer front master cylinder which obviously never worked as it should!I changed it and bought a second handed ttr master cylinder(or so they told me!) which doesn't work properly neither.

I've also changed the brake hose with a non-genuine one.

Finally the question: What really is the problem? the cylinder , the brake hose or both?

If i have to change the cylinder i need to know how much pressure it produces so i can have a bigger variety to select (ttr is not pretty common in GREECE so i thought i could replace it with a cylinder from dr 250 or xr 250. so i need to be sure the pressures are the same!)

P.S:When i say it doesn't work properly i mean it doesn't give the right pressure to the caliper or so i think because it doesn't stop where you think it should and it has the same feeling with the fazer's cylinder which didn't give the right pressure neither...

2)the second problem is the fuel consumption which is around 5,5l/100km or 42mpg which is rather poor compared to what other guys tell me for their bikes. i changed the air filter, the spark plug, cleaned the carburator and made the mixture poorer to gain some miles but there is almost no difference.i even tried to adjust the valve clearance but it was within the limits so it was not needed.it's rather disappointing because i don't drive fast at all and bought it just because everybody told me how reliable and economical it is....is there anything else to do??

Apart from selling it!!

hope somebody answers!!bye!!

Welcome to the forum Stou!

Can you provide a photo of your master cylinder please? If it is a genuine TTR250 part then it is much better to persevere and get it working correctly rather than replace it with one from another bike.

42mpg isn't very good. You have done all the obvious work so I am not sure what else to suggest. Is the speedo registering the mileage correctly do you think confuse

Brian
