1997 TTR250 HOW MUCH 19, 28 or 30hp?

Hello, this link (http://www.motorcyclenews.com/MCN/bikereviews/searchresults/Bike-Reviews/Yamaha/Yamaha-TT250R-2004-2005/)is wrote "ttr250 has got 19 hp" but i know 28-30 hp.

I dont understand and this site wrote Average fuel consumption 47mpg ( 3.78lt/75km ) is data true?

Another my guestion , are TTR250 and TT250R same or different motors? Thanks very much...

Horse power can either be measured at the crankshaft (higher reading) or at the rear wheel (much lower reading).

For model information see http://ttr250.activeboard.com/t44067747/model-names-and-codes-and-catalogue-numbers/

Jarrah did a lot of work on identifying models but I can't immediately find it confuse

In my opinion ''they'' got it wrong.

My info says 28HP @ 8,500 RPM, which sounds right but I could be wrong.

This was a thread from my old pro Barra8.....

If anyone has a model with the excact title as any models that are missing please upload a pic..

It's not confirmed yet but this may be the first TTR250 blue model. Edited: I now think the first blue models had weird redish brown fork protectors.

I think you are right Adam - see here if you are on Facebook

I am pretty sure that I have nailed all the OE and Raid models and years here Jarrah - are you able to see the page?

I confess to not having spent time on identifying the blue models but the following pic may help to show owners their model details:

model lable info.jpg

.............................................................................................................................................................................................................

Model Identification
Model Identification for Australian Released Motorcycles:
Because of the ADR rules, the Build Date on the VIN plate on the steering head will often NOT show the correct model year. The VIN plate is added at the factory, not in Australia, so it can be months before the bike is packed, shipped, warehoused and then placed on the Dealer floor.xv250_50.jpg

The 10th number a long from the left of the 17 digit vin is the year.
EG: 2 is 2002

Note:
Before 2001 the 10th number was a letters
EG: 1999 model will be a X and a 1998 model will be a W

Most manufacturers release their bikes BEFORE the Model year. It is normal to find (say) a 2004 model with a 10/2003 build date.
Soooo! If you are not sure, please ask!!

This can be particularly important for older bikes if you want to get the correct cable or bearing....

Model Identification for Motorcycles released outside Australia: Quite often there are subtle differences between the models released in different markets. In general, the basic model code will be the same, but may vary on details such as carburation and running gear such as lights, indicators and guards. For example, a model from Japan will usually include pre heaters in the carby and may be jetted differently to account for the octane rating of the fuel in a local market.

From the FAQ's

It has been suggested that, from the year 2000, the 10th digit denotes year of manufacture but that doesn't always seem to work. If true my "2002" TTR was manufactured 2 years before it was registered! See the table below:

That said, it would be hard to say whether or not the TTR250 motor had minor changes to it without knowing the specific year models. At this stage it looks like the ''minor'' engine changes were in 1999 starting with the *5GF model prefix. These changes would only have a minor effect on performance though.

I would say that your model is one of the missing models from the chart/catalogue in my previous post.

At a guess, I would say that your model is a 1997 TT-250R  4MR3.

I am attaching a photo of my 2000 TT-R250MC, in case you think that it will be helpful. However, the handguards, handle bars, turn signals, fender bag, head lamp and cowling, cowling (number plate) bag, and bash plate are all after-market items. It came stock with no signal lights, only a small bar to protect the sump, and unreenforced white plastic hand guards.
