Just saying hello.

Hello everyone,
I just bought a 1993 TTR250 Open Enduro a couple of weeks ago after pining for one for nearly a year, the best desicion I ever made. 70MPG, my Honda Varadero 125 did 75mpg, enough power to give me an adrenaline rush when I open it up in fourth, I can't think of anything better than it.
I was setting the sag earlier today, however, and I noticed a little rubber stopper thing on the bottom of the shock had perished and crumbled inside the spring, I'm guessing it is to stop the shock bottoming out and doing damage but am unsure, I will try and get pictures up later if they're needed of the offending item. I wish I had spotted it before I bought it, I could have haggled a little bit more. I was just wondering whether it needs replacing on its own or if the whole shock needs a fix-up now.
Another thing is that the seat has had a chunk shaved out of it by the owner before me, and I'm 6,4" and mostly leg at that, I had a look around the internets for help but nothing really that useful, unless I decide to put a gel insert in, just wondering if you can give me a few tips for lifting the seat up again.
There's a few other things on my mind, but there always is.
Any help would be great, Thanks
Adam

PS, I just realised this is now probably in the wrong place as initially I was just going to introduce myself.

Hi Adam and welcome to the forum biggrin

It is good to hear you are enjoying the TTR.

You are right, the perished thing is the bump stop. Unless you are doing jumps, I wouldn't worry about it. My guess is that if your rear shock hasn't been apart since the TTR was built then it might not be too easy to strip it out and fit a new one.

Unfortunately you can't buy after market seat foams for the TTR although new seat covers are relatively common.

Every area seems to have its own clever upholsterer who will re-foam or modify your seat foam and either make up or fit a ready made seat cover. You need to ask around to find out where he or she is! Perhaps try the local TRF forum?

All the best and remember we are here to help if need be but always appreciate an introduction - plus pics if possible wink

Brian

Thank you for the quick reply, I'll stop worrying about it then, jumps aren't part of my agenda. I have been lurking around all your ttr sites for a while now, I am very impressed with the research and the amount of knowledge you have about the bike. Here's a picture of my bike after riding about all day, then going through a snowy field, hence the packed wheels. The seat doesn't look too cut down in it but comparing with photos of other OE models it's has quite the dip in it.
