My mate has a TTR which we are repairing (sprag).

the engine only has 4GY and the same on the frame.

No other numbers or letters! the V5 says the same too! 

Sticker onthe headstock is all in Japanese except II-197 and the 4GY

 

Does this seem right?

Hi Greg and welcome to the forum!

The older model TTRs did not have engine numbers as such so 4GY is fine. Most blue TTRs have full engine numbers and all the ones I have seen have had a 4PX prefix.

I have not come across a TTR without a frame number though. Have you looked on the headstock just in front of the steering lock?

My mate showed me a piccy of the headstock and it just has a sticker saying No-20 or something like that. (cant remember the exact number).
