Someone pointed me to this site from the Thumpertalk forum. New TTR250 owner, just bought a 2002 last Saturday and getting it in order. I'll make my way around the site to find the answers to some questions that the owner's manual didn't cover too well. Looking forward to some fun times on this bike... I was really looking for a late model xr250 Honda, mainly because you don't see too many ttr250's around. I was tired of trying to trail ride modern motocrossers that won't turn unless you ride like Chad Reed. Just came across this one from the original owner for a real sweet price. Says he only ran 5 tanks of gas through it... motor sounds like a sewing machine!
Thanks for the welcome... and thanks for pointing me here Barra8!
Lots of great info here... some not good news, like the lack of a swappable rear fender. Mine is pretty much there, but scuffed and scratched and the rear loop mount is broken off... so two black zip ties hold it on.
I love the way this bike handles! My motocrosser friends laughed at me for wanting a bike with less than a 58" wheelbase... just wait until they ride it and see what I was talking about. Had a very bad stumble when coming off idle, but cleaning the pilot jet and pumper valve thingy took care of that. (plus fresh gas, the old stuff smelled terrible!) Runs awesome now! Took it out last night after dark, just because I have a dirtbike with a headlight!
TTR fan - The garage is dirty and cold this time of year... but I have collected a quite a few tools through the years, nothing fancy or clean but I try to do all that I can myself. The curse of being one on the working poor I guess... I hope to unclutter it soon. There is a pile of xr250 parts behind the TTR that will be going up for sale now that I have a TTR. Leftovers from a '97 that I bought that had a bad motor. I was saving them to use on an XR, but bought blue instead! I actually need to get rid of a bunch of old bike stuff... I'm a vintage bike guy trying to make the move to a modern bike.
Glad to see you signed up, lots of info here & be sure to check out Brian's TTR parts/accessories site, Totally TTRs. He's got stuff hard to find over on this side & shipping to the US isn't a big deal.
I have my TTR road legal here in Vermont, not sure how particular Kansas is, but it's nice to be able to link trails on the road. Not too bad a job.
