Floods in Queensland, Australia

Hey all just thought i'd upload this article on the qld floods. It is pretty usual but people can see what we endure each year. There has'nt been a cyclone that hit the coast  for two years * up this way *but it's about that time. Gotta love the tropics wink

Report here & another with pictures here

Luckily enough we are up in the mountains on the tablelands but the rivers & creeks still flood.

Gotta love Australia

A FLOOD warning has been issued for Bundaberg for Sunday evening, with Burnett River levels expected to reach 7m - just less than a metre below the peak of the 2010/11 summer floods.

The Bureau of Meteorology has just issued the urgent warning, saying major flood levels had been exceeded at Walla, with major flooding to extend through to Bundaberg by Sunday evening.

Heavy rain between Gayndah and Bundaberg and strong local inflows into the Burnett River is responsible for the current flooding in the lower Burnett River.

Significant rainfall over the Burnett catchment in the past six to nine hours is also causing rapid river rises. Major flood levels have also been exceeded at Three Moon Creek, Abercorn, Ceratodus and Coringa.

Further heavy rainfall is forecast across the Burnett River catchment during the next 24 hours, which may lead to higher flood levels and more widespread flooding.

Council staff are set to doorknock expected areas to be affected from early Sunday morning to alert residents of the coming flood.

Updates to come

It's okay, most of us learn to live with it. So far no recorded deaths from a Cyclone here (that i know of). * edited: A guy died in one of them (can't remember which) when he became trapped in his house while a generator was running. I think Darwin was a bit different but that was ages ago.

The fires on the other hand are usually deliberately lit by people with NO BRAINS & has caused many lives to be lost. no

This is a report on Yasi, the biggest we have had. Scary stuff at the time blankstare

Surviving Yasi: in their words

One year ago Cyclone Yasi roared ashore in north Queensland, unleashing havoc on the communities in its path.

The wild storm, packing wind gusts of 285 kilometres per hour, shredded trees, destroyed buildings and left lives in tatters.

The towns of Tully, Mission Beach, Cardwell, Silkwood and Innisfail bore the brunt of the category five storm.

Here, residents of cyclone-ravaged towns share their photos of the aftermath of Yasi and reflect on the disaster.

Another report with more pics here

Glad we have had a bit of a break (famous last words :)

Another update on the Queensland floods.....

I have only just got my internet connection back from this. It is another bad blow for us,hope this does rise tax confuse. Also a big waste of Australian tax payers money. Something must be done. Either make walls for the water or condemn the land that floods. I guess some of it can't be helped, but makes you wonder.

Very sorry for all that have lost their homes & glad nobody lost their life in the flood so far this time (as far as i know).

Anyway photo gallery here

Full story here

Geeze no good nono Did'nt hear that one blankstare

I picked up a hitchiker today. His van had been swamped. Story was that the locals told him of a ''good'' spot to camp after driving all the way from NSW (over 3000klms).

He woke in the night to find his van knee deep in water & his bed soaked. Nothing he could do so he lost everything no
