Oh and this is how it looked when I brought it home (sans seat) a week ago.

And the second is how it looks now, in the process of disassembly.

Hi Everyone,

Just joined the forum and wanted to thank everyone for the excellent information provided on this site.

The ttr 250's aren't very common here, or at least in North Dakota, where I live.

I recently picked up a 2004 model and am going through it and am using a lot of the information provided here.

Thank you all and happy holidays,

Darin

Welcome to the forum Darin!

Your TTR looks in very good shape. My guess is that it hasn't been subject to a lot of weekends being ridden in the mud smile

Hi Brian and Jarrah,

Brian:

Thanks again for the excellent work here. So much useful info on this model!

I got the bike from a farmer in a small town up here in ND. He was older (later 50's?) and said he just used it to "check on the cows" and put about 500 miles a year on it. Original owner. It was kind of funny. I saw the add and then went to look at it and he had a big plexiglass windshield on it. After I saw that, and met the farmer, I could tell he wasn't out jumping to many ditches lol... I'm hoping to change that.

Jarrah:

Adding to the above, the farmer told me he changed oil in it twice a year (beginning and end), and regularly cleaned the air filter, but did nothing else. I got it home and diagnosed a decompression plug oil leak, the front wheel was dragging (cow crap PACKED in the front brake caliper), crankcase emission collector trap plumb full, yada yada, and figured I want to keep this one for a while so I better go through EVERYTHING. The bike was regularly washed, but likely never dried. I pulled apart the rear swingarm and went through all the bearings. I was able to clean and reuse most of them, but the top shock bearing and one of the swingarm bearings had contamination in them. It was definitely needed and now that it's addressed, the bike should provide many new years of use.
Also had the bubbling graphics common with this model, but everything else was all original except for the rear tire.

I'm about finished with the bearings and will be doing the jets and piping it shortly, as well as replacing that almost wore out front tire. Thanks much for the compliment on the bike! I am pretty detail orientated and will do a complete restoration (plus some upgrades) before this next summers riding season. I think I will end up with one very nice and unique trail ripper!

Thank you for the links and greetings from your friend across the water,

Darin
