The reason I asked about the weight (unfortunately that guy didn't weigh his) is that I vaguely remember reading somewhere that the two types of frames were close weight-wise, as the alu frame is sectionally much bigger.

I have never done a frame swap although I enjoy reading articles by owners who make hybrid dirtbikes. A guy on our local Devon forum is on his second CR500-engined KTM
I guess that it should be possible if you have the facility to make the new engine plates. What you need to check is the overall size of the TTR engine and carb and see if it will physically fit at the correct angle in the YZ frame.
The air-cooled part of the TTR is one of my favorite attributes. It's gotten quite cold here the last few nights & then I realize there's nothing to worry about with the bike.
That would be a pretty cool project, sounds worth it just for the suspension. I would think they are similarly sized, adapter brackets at the worst?
Are the aluminum frames really that much lighter though?
