Hi. Being a lucky guy I was given a TTR250 a few weeks ago. I do about 12k a year on a GSA and have been experimenting with trails and tracks. Don't really fancy picking it up though. A good friend had a TTR he was no longer able to use... so here I am. The bike hadn't run for a while and the carb seems a bit gunged up and it was reluctant to start. I got it running up and down the lane a couple of weeks ago. The carb was flooding, I removed it and gave it a quick clean, focussed on the float bowl valve, seemed ok. Last weekend I had an MOT booked in, bugger to start, flooding again... so no MOT. Busy at the moment but the carb will be off again and I'll be a bit more thorough. Any tips would be well received. Looking forward to getting out on it. Felt like fun up and down our lane and on the way to the MOT till it started playing up.

Welcome to TTR land, Paul.

They are nice bikes - ideally suited to beginners (when they are running) and I'm sure you'll get plenty of opportunity in picking up practice. biggrin

If you use the "Search" box on just above the blue horizontal page header (above) and put "carburettor problem" in you can read what others have had and done and possibly find an answer.

It sounds to me as if a good "fettle" is needed.  hmm

Welcome to the forum Paul!

If you have any friends with an ultrasonic cleaner then they work wonders on gunged up carbs wink

Thanks Guys,

I'm quite happy getting my hands dirty (or latex gloves these days).

I did some off road riding in my youth and the odd bit in my 20's. However, that was a lifetime away. Did a few rocky tracks on the GS in the Picos a couple of years ago which I enjoyed. Done a few tame lanes and tracks in the Peaks over the last 18 months, this offer came up and it seemed like a good idea. Joined the TRF forum and I'll join the club when I get the bike sorted properly. Looking forward to it.

Paul, you will have to excuse Steve (and his remarks) since he is from the "other" end, Cobber! biggrin

No offence, Steve, but I'm sure Paul's parentage isn't in question. awwconfuseyawnsmilebiggrin

True... it's taken a lot of hard work to earn that title by right and deeds done!!!

Yes, I was very lucky and have a generous friend.

Well it took way too long but the TTR is finally sorted. Carb was a bit of a problem to clear but seems ok now. Taxed, mot'd, insured etc. Joined the TRF. Just need to get out on some lanes now.
