WR carb fitment?

I was just looking at Matteo's (wonder where he's gone?) posts from earlier in the spring about fitting a WR exhaust on his TTR as I came across one myself pretty cheap.

Anyway, as I am following the Mikuni thread, etc. the exhaust swap made me wonder if anyone has tried a WR carburetor on a TTR?

The stock carb seems to be the fussiest part on the bike & I don't seem to be the only one with carb issues.

Not sure what year model your talking about but if your talking around this year model....

Year:2001 (View All)
Model:WR250F - WR250FN (View All)
Component:CARBURETOR (View All)

The answer is No as it has electric throttle postion sensors unlike the cable type.

To help you find another carb type..

If it has cables on the left hand side then the chances are it will be an easy fit if the lenght & diameter is the same as a ttr or modification will be required.

.................................................

I have never had a problem with a ttr carb other than needing cleaning occationally when left to sit with fuel in carb. Oh...& the fact the float mount has a habit of snapping but if you can get the pin out without snapping the mount & drill out the pin hole a little this is not a problem.

Hey Barra, You beat me to it, I was going to saya similar thing.

I have never had a moments problem with my carb.

The best thing to do I think is:

Clean It
Rebuild It
rejet It, if needed
and keep it stock if you can for trouble free riding

Oh yeh, and drill the damn float pin posts out just a little bit bigger.

Luck   smile

Thanks for your replies. It's not a quest & much as a question. I didn't realize there was an electronic component to the WR carb, kind of assumed it was just a better grade/ higher flowing unit than what we have.

My bike came already gummed up from 2 years of storage when I got it, so I've been through the carb, but plan to re-do it again now that winter is arriving. At this point I attribute a blatting out at the high end (each gear) as well as a constatly changing idle to the carb, though I will clean my cables completely first to try to correct the idle problem. I WOULD like to try the non-US spec jets though, may see if Brian can get some for me as the EU/AU main jet doesn't seem to available here.

Luckily I had read the carb strip-down page here before I did it the first time so my float tabs are still intact.

When you clean the carb next....strip it down & soak the parts overnight in fresh fuel (excluding gaskets/o-rings)- ''i like to use deisel & petrol at a ratio of 1:1''. Then blow all air holes including the two at the rear of the carby with an air compressor along with your main jets ect. You can also try to drop your carby needle down one setting. This will give you more bottom end & smoother power.
