Hi all i passed my bike test yesterday and have been given a 1993 ttr250 do not have much history of the bike but it seems to be in good condition, from what i can see it has a rsv exhaust and it seems to be running a completley different spark plug? but runs really well, rode it for the first time last night and was wonderng if any body could give me any advice that i may need with these bikes? cheers tom from hampshire
What do you mean by a restrictor plug? just general advice on these bikes ie what to watch out for what tends to go wrong with these bikes if anything.

Agressive little barstards, they look a bit like lorakeets, they are so aggressive they bluff just about ayn other bird, even the Sulphur Crested Parrots whick are about 5 times there size

What i mean by a restrictor plug is ......A restrictor plug stops any interference from lights accessories ect. and also the bike will not run properly without one as the cdi has a restrictor on it & the plug has to comply with this...

You got me worried there as I have always used the CR9E.
Just checked my 4MR workshop manual which also say CR9E.
Can you remind me which TTR you have?

I have always used a CR8E in my '93 raid because that was what was fitted when I got it and as it didn't seem to to be causing any problems I replaced it like for like.
However, I have to confess that I have not even looked at the plug in the '05 bike that I picked up a few months ago. I just had another look at the FAQ's again (in a more sober frame of mind) and you do say that your '02 and '04 bikes use the CR9E. I will have to have a look at my '05 bike to see what is fitted.
As it had less than 2000 miles on the clock when I got it I suspect the plug in it will be the one it came out the factory with.

Cr8E will just give you a little more power & will do no harm. The CR9E has been the same plug from 1993-2012,it does'nt change for different models. All cylinder heads are the same from 1993-2012 & barrels the same also. Not sure about what the raid has for a plug standard but can't see why it would be different even though it has a different compression ratio.
The YZ450F uses this same plug but without the restrictor & many more bikes use this also...

This is my CR8E plug that is fine to use from 1993-2012 including the Raid. It gives a little bit more spark than the standard CR9E. I used this for about 4 mths with no dramas but not much power difference over the CR9E but seems to save a bit more fuel??

This is the plug i will be installing..Aftermarket NKG Iridium IX for a bit more bottom end power & better fuel economy (apparently)

Don't have a pic of a CR9E as i don't use this too often but can assure you that all models either came out with CR8E or CR9E (mainly CR9E). Either will be fine to use.

My guess is that CR8E is needed for colder climates as it gives more spark than CR9E

Well Brian, I found out where I got my first replacement plugs from when I was going through some paper work last night. I was looking for a piece of paper for the accountant when I came across some old reciepts from Brian Eland from 9 years ago!
One of them had, amongst other things, 2 C8RE plugs on it.
Well, it works thats the main thing
Will have to have a look at the new bike at the weekend to see what is in there.
