All Australian models have a kickstart (as far as i have seen)
Yes it is easy to strip or break the shaft as it is hollow. Should really have a bolt in it like the YZ450F ect. but Mr Yamaha got lazy :)
Yes it is easy to fit a electric start kit-cheapest place.. www.powersportsplus.com or www.boats.net . All Australian models are fitted with both the kickstart & electric start so buying a electric starter kit may not be nessasary.

I could be wrong but i'm pretty sure that i am not as nearly every bike 250 or over (let alone ttr's which every one i have seen has one) have kickstarts over here
Anyone know whether the 95 Australian model had electric start or just kick? Are the kickstarters known for shaft breaks? is it easy to fit electric starter kit and where from?
I checked on one of my kickstart shafts and it is hollow between the green arrows but seems solid, where it counts, between the bue arrows. I couldn't get a small screwdriver past point B. There is an indention in the end of the shaft at point C but doesn't lead to a hollow section as far as I can see
I am not going to hacksaw the end off to check inside though so will take your photo evidence as proof
The shaft is actually hollow right until about 5mm from the end (the end that looks solid :). As you said it has a solid point near the kickstart gear but not much on the end
You would only have to drill a hole in 5mm & bingo hollow Hence why it has a tendency of breaking like mine.
That ''said'',they are still pretty robust other than that.
