4 of us (myself, brother Trev - TTR250, Olly Cooke - WR250R and Rik Lennard - KTM250 4T) took advantage of a gap in the rain for a trail ride and I am very very glad we went out. Great weather and the lanes absolutely tip top - the roads and lanes between Tedburn and Winkleigh were running with water
It seems that Devon had over 3" of rain overnight and the washout on the unsurfaced lanes made some wonderfully tricky and several lanes required great care crossing their fords as rivers were very swollen.
We did an anti-clockwise run starting from near Exeter with the furthest point on the loop being at Winkleigh where we had lunch and several mugs of tea at Zukis Cafe before turning about and heading for home. They are quite happy to invite in muddy dripping wet trail riders
Looking over the side of Bondleigh Bridge showed the River Yeo to be in threatening mood so we decided against riding the lane that crosses it at a ford this time..........
I was first through the ford on an old Roman road near Bow and found a very deep section. The other 3 took better lines - see here fora short video of Trev crossing on his TTR. It looked worse riding through than it does on the video.
The last lane that is worthy of mention is at Tillerton Steep (an MCC Exeter Trials sectyion) - best tackled "enthusiastically" if not to get caught out with the rear tyre spinning up on the rock slabs
I swapped my TTR325 with Olly's WR250R for quite a big section of the return journey and remain impressed by these machines. Great engine and handling. Quiet and deceptively quick requiring some hectic scrubbing off of speed on a couple of occasions
We are very lucky to live in such a great County eh?
