Hi all.

Since I just bought myself a '93 TTR250 OE project, and this is the most extensive source for TTRs on tinternet, I thought I'd sign up and get acquainted with you lot, as I'm probably going to be spending a lot of time round here. smile

I've had a fair few project bikes over the years, so I'm quite handy with electrics and mechanics, I'm just not familiar with Yamaha thumpers as of yet. I have my factory bible ready.

As well as faffing around with bikes I also compose & produce music. Have a listen:

So, greetings from 'sunny' Sunderland and apologies in advance for all the daft questions I'm about to ask.

Chris

I could give you the handlebar height and overall length, but the seat height won't be accurate, as it has the wrong shock fitted.

Handlebar height: 115cm

Lengh (tyre to tyre): 200cm

Hi chris

Welcome to the forum, you are just a little further north than me! You will have plenty to do with the bike anyway especially if you want to get the electric start back working. It maybe worth looking into the one way starter sprag clutch if you are wanting to get the starter working as that side of things can work out very expensive. There is a really good thread on the sprag clutch problems if you do a search you should find it. There is quite a knack to starting the bikes with the kickstart, like you said it needs to be at tdc.

Adam.

Thanks Adam. Yeah, I've been reading a lot about the sprag clutch. I hope that's not the reason the previous owner removed the battery.
Doesn't look to be a big job, just costly. The exhaust isn't too bad actually. It's quieter than my old XL250 with an XR pipe fitted.
You can tell the carb's been re-jetted for the pipe and can too, as the power is perfectly consistent and responsive. Quite a fun bike to ride.

Welcome to the forum Chris!

It sounds like your TTR was in the hands of someone who knew what they were doing in terms of setting up the TTR for something like enduro events.

To modify the rear shock like that shows some commitment to the cause especially as it took out the e-start. Also, putting on the modified header pipe and FMF exhaust plus tuning the carb to match shows some initiative biggrin

Looking forward to hearing more in due course wink

Brian

Thanks Brian,
Yeah, the pipe and silencer with correct jetting is a huge bonus. It means the budget can go on other essential parts and consumables, like beer.
