Had a great days trail riding last Sunday around the beautifull Yorkshire dales, 160 mile round trip. Monday was bad day weather wise, rain again. So decided to try my newly purchased "bike lift bench" (more on this in future post!) out and check the TTR out etc
With the bike at a nice workable height I immediatly spotted to my horror the rear silencer bolt was missing, I am sure it was there last time! Quickly fitted a slightly longer bolt and also added a lock nut. It just goes to show a good check around the bike can reveal all sorts of things.
Brian an even a greater spot by yourself re the missing rubber's I guess these are the rascals http://www.boats.net/parts/search/Yamaha/Motorcycle/2005/TT-R250%20-%20TTR250T/EXHAUST/parts.html Where do you reccomend obtaining replacements from?
Yes a big lump, I fired the bike up and checked for any leaks on the exhaust in case it had cracked etc but all looked fine thankfully.

For small parts like that it is just as well to buy from MotoWard or Fowlers mail order. Boats.net have great prices but orders usually take about 3 weeks (at least) to be shipped and get through Customs over here
The rear one is particularly worth fitting as most RH panels on trail-ridden TTRs I get are damaged or holed at that point. The rubber grommet thing gives the panel a fighting chance!
Coincidentally, I was just near the end of a several hour ride when the muffler fell off! I had lost both bolts! I am really embarrassed to admit this, but I had been hearing an occasional clunk on bumps, but kept riding, anyway, since I had no tools with me. Fortunately, I had had a backpack, and a little water. After it got cool enough, I was able to secure it in in my backpack, and I rode back to my camp site "sans silencer". I purchased replacement bolts, but also used those 'high friction' washers to try and keep the bolts attached better. I have also purchase a front fender bag and another tool bag that fits over the headlamp cowling so I won't go off without at least some tools, again.

Hey Larry, I don't think I would have admitted to that one

I went for a long rocky ride yesterday and couldn't figure out what a slight rattle was at the back. I had suspected my B and B stainless steel rack but it seemed secure. The rack bolts thru the top muffler mount and has a special longer bolt which goes thru a standoff tube.
Everything was in place and seemingly tight but the muffler, when pushed, had vertical movement.
I guess the bolt hole in the muffler attachment tab is a fair bit bigger than the bolt diameter. So slight movement is possible, leading to a vertical elongation of the hole, which can only get worse rapidly. Lucky for me the bolt thread was well loctited, so I didn't lose the bolt.
I am suspicious of the longer bolt being part of the problem, allowing a slight flexing.
Tightening it really hard stopped it from being moved up and down by hand, but I just know it will happen again!
