Am just looking at buying a second hand bike with 22,000kms on it? Not sure what the general wear and tear and life is of the bike. Can anyone help? Thanks,
I am about to tick over 17,000km (10,500 miles) and all I have ever done is change the oil and filter every 5,000KM. That is it. It starts first kick or first fire of the start button. A mate up the road had 20,000km on his 09 TTR before he sold it for a WR and he never looked after it. That bike never failed either.

Yamaha say 10,000km for oil change in the owners handbook. The Yamaha dealer told me to change the oil every 8,000km as 5,000km is a waste of oil but it makes me feel warm and fuzzy so I do.
Oil is Moterex semi synthetic 15W/50. I have never had a problem with the clutch slipping. Filter is a K&N KN-142 Oil Filter.
The oil is as clear being dumped as it is going in.
And if you need a copy of the Owners manual just PM me your email address.
Regards,
Matt

Well if you look in the overlanding section in south Africa and back you will see a guy called ken Thomas who I met in northwich in May this tear and his ttr has done 72000 miles, no kilometers, so you can work out the figures for yourself as to wether or not the engine last very long
A high mileage is not a bad thing, it depends on quite a few things to determine if it is bad, not bad, good or shocking.
You don't mention the year of the bike, so 22,000km in one year is a lot but 22,000 in 10 years is nothing.
It also depends on how regularly the bike was serviced. Has it had regular oil and filter changes? Has the air filter been cleaned/renewed often? Are the chains and sprockets worn? Are the brakes and tyres in good nick?
Kms/year can be between 1,000 and 10,000 - all dependant on use.
Don't rush in and buy a bike without researching the options.
Have a look at this site CLICKY THINGY which gives good advice on buying used motorcycles in general.

Geez Matt, Oil and filter every 5000K's, I think I'll up my oil change distance for sure, at that rate I think I'll lash out and buy some Really good oil.
BTW what oil do you use
