Ok, I have been thinking about changing my 2005 ttr250 for a while and I stumbled accross this

I knew the Yamaha obviously did a wr250 enduro model but didn't realise they did a supermoto, this would possibly suit my needs better.
Has anyone had one of these, just after any input on them really good or bad. I am assuming I could possibly fit enduro wheels if needed. ?

Interestingly, it shares quite a few parts with the TTR250.
From my own experience, the WR250R is quite tall and has the typical modern narrow hard seat - KTM stylee. It goes well and has a good top speed and, with its fuel injection system, bypasses our TTR carb problems.
It does however make any modifications more complex and expensive in terms of exhaust upgrades etc.
Quite a bit of electronic gadgetry with associated "error codes" etc like on modern cars.
It lacks some of the niceties of the TTR e.g. replacing the back wheel is a pain as you have to balance the wheel while you put the axle in. No wheel "rests" like on the TTR.
That said, I wouldn't mind one to run alongside the TTRs for a while
WR's are decent bikes by all.accounts. The 450 is the same, but with more oomph. Be aware that as a more competition orientated bike that the service schedules and maintenance costs will be higher.
I know what you mean about KTM seats Brian, I took my old DT out the other day, and it has a seat akin to a sofa, swapped over with a mate on a KTM 300exc, it was like sitting on a plank! having said that it was featherlite, glided over bumps and the power was unbelievable!
Seat height seemed quite high for me (6 foot and shrinking!) on the WRR whereas the specs show it as only a tad taller at 930mm compared to the TTR's 910mm.
Weight wise, the WRR is surprisingly heavier with a wet weight of nearly 134kg compared to the TTRs 131kg and that is with the TTR carrying an extra 2 litres of fuel. That didn't go down well with my mate who bought one to replace his TTR on the grounds of it being lighter
It is possible to buy a lowering link as I helped my mate fit his. Still can't get his feet down flat on it though.
If you are looking for a s/h one to use for trail riding then try to find one with the full sump guard plus an after-market exhaust if you can because it will be whole lot cheaper than buying new and fitting yourself.
From what I could gather the wr250 x & r must be slightly tuned down compared to the wrf's hence hopefully cutting down on expensive engine rebuilds. Was the ride height on the wr250r you rode simmilar to the blue ttr's Brian? I have had a look on the kouba site and they for some reason don't do a lowering link for the wr's? The electronic side of things could turn out to be quite frustrating and expensive if anything had to go wrong but on the other hand I think they are a good looking bike with obviously a modern touch and still have all the practical things like ignition key, helmet lock , indicators etc like on the ttr.
This is the actual bike I have been looking at, I have heard a few bad reports on these guys as I would be getting it delivered so really buying it blind!
Thanks for the input Brian, I am really looking at the x which is the supermoto one with the 17 inch wheels so hopefully that will sit a little lower anyway. My bike only get used on the road these days so really getting the r with bash plate etc would be a waste. I have just put mine up for sale and am trying to negotiate a deal on a x at the moment. I will keep you posted and if I do get one will hopefully still use you for my spares!
I just did a google search and found the above plus a few more all singing the same tune. Not really what you want to hear when not going to see the bike till its paid for and at your door. There doesnt seem to be many of these bikes around and it's priced quite attractively.
Ok, quick update, my new bike is coming tomorrow. It's a 2008 wr250x in blue ex display so has only 600 miles on the clock. And I am trading in my ttr's , I may live to regret not keeping the ttr ! I will be shortly advertising my spare set of wheels and lowering link once I get some pictures taken.
I did advertise it in here for £1700 but I was offered £2000 trade in so I was very happy with that! It's a great bike in good condition but It wasn't getting any off road use so I have gone for the supermoto option.

Thanks for that brian, most stuff wrr and wrx seems to USA orientated. Still waiting for my new bike so still a ttr owner, ( problems with the van apparently ). I should be getting new bike by Friday at the latest, bit annoying when all paid for!

Despite the USA orientation, I understand the information on those forums to hold good for the UK model.
I wasn't to happy as the bike was getting delivered to Where I work for 8 this morning, I was there at twenty to 8 like a kid at Xmas only to get a call at nine saying they had problem with the van! I hope the bike is more reliable than the van!
Ok, decided to make the 170 mile round trip and pick the bike up myself. Set off on the ttr at 7.30 this morning, the bike did really well keeping a constant 65-70 on the dual carriage way running perfectly. Arrived at just after nine and took delivery of the wr250x. First impressions were that the bike looked and felt a little smaller than the ttr. Running on the 17 inch supermoto wheels may have something to do with that. So I set off back, the seat actually felt better than the ttr one but I had removed a little seat foam out of the ttr's one. Performance wise the wrx is smoother and seems to pull better but there's not a real lot between them, the wrx only has 600 miles on so it may improve. The handling is great though on the twistys but that to be expected really.
I have ridden my mates WR250R quite a bit and think its really nice. The main difference I see between my raid and his WR is that like an old car vs a new car, my bike has more character, and, dare I say it, soul. Each to their own, I'm happy with the price difference between mine ans his though! By the way, I saw your wheels for sale, can you give me a text with your number and I'll ring you? 07967970734

'94 Yamaha TTR 250 Raid (with Open Enduro headlight, grrr...)
Went out for a little ride out for fish and chips seen as it was a nice day, when I came back to the bike I went to start it, it fired then died then would not restart. The fuel pump was not buzzing like it should on it's prime cycle. My first thoughts were 2008 , early wrx, - fuel pump. Anyway I thought I had best not just go off what I had read on the forum so I set to work with the tool kit in the middle of thirsk market place. Checked all fuses, electrical block connectors, wiggling wires etc trying to get the fuel pump to buzz but nothing. After an hour and a half I was about to throw in the towel when there was a little buzz from the pump so I cranked it, it fired then died, I then left it for about another 20 mins and tried again and the pump buzzed back to life and the bike fired straight up so jumped on it and got me back home, it's now starting ok but it takes 5 or 6 seconds of buzzing to prime. It has got to be the fuel pump at fault. The bike has a month of dealer warranty left so hopefully they will replace the pump, will hopefully find out on Monday!
