By'eck Mr Sharper, yon piccies stir up long-dormant memories. aww

I used to live on Long Lane at Dore - Burbage and Houndkirk were my local lanes back in the early 70s.

I used to ride over Mam Tor on my pre-unit T100 when the road was the main drag between Castleton & Chapel, well before the subsidence. It's now a tad uneven and traffic is forced up Winnets. smile

Dead Sheep Hill looks interesting but I can't locate it, is it p'raps round Bamford area? confuse

Anyroadup, looks fantastic lanes and scenery.

Martyn

I can see the bottom of Long Line out of my front bedroom window!

Dead Sheep Hill runs from the Snake at the narrow end of Ladybower reservoir and comes out at the Hope Cross, it's a very hard climb. Sadly I won't be doing it again now that they've put a TRO on it and the other tracks that it leads to/crosses...

Dead Sheep Hill (not me):- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u3KhirTV5DI

Totley Moor is also a no-go route now, especially what with me getting all political and joining the TRF.

Mam Tor is signposted at the bottom as no motor vehicles, but not from the top.

Chapelgate from Edale round the back of Mam Tor is another good lengthy track that we're not allowed on, although Roych Clough down towards Chapel-en-le-Frith is still a goer, although only one-way (top to bottom).

Thanks, SHarper, found it. I never knew it existed. confuse

I've taken my T100 (road bike) and girlfriend (now Mrs Cubber) up Bamford Clough way back in 1967. She was obliged to dismount so that I could get up the steep, rocky bit but she re-mounted for the top bit. aww

Long Line, not Lane! The track at the top of Long Line (on the bend near the Round House) that leads on to Houndkirk road - is that still open? It was passable to the Fox House if I remember correctly and was just over 2 miles long. confuse

Another day I took my bike up Long Causeway - not far from the top of Bamford Clough, and that trail went up Stanage Edge to the Cross and dropped over to Redmires reservoir along the Roman Road. Mrs Cubber was not with me on that day.  no

Memories - cor........... biggrinbiggrin

Houndkirk Road is still a doable route, they've resurfaced it with hardcore to make it a bit less interesting. The first picture was taken up there.

The surface of Bamford Clough is interesting to say the least, parts of it have had concrete poured on it and 'steps' have appeared where it stops and starts.

Here's a photo taken at the Stanage Pole, at the top of Long Causeway:-
