Hi everyone

I just took the time to transfer over from the old system (or what every it was called) having been on since 2006.  I have had my 4GY1 model since 2006, but not used it seriously for 2 years.

My son has now graduated from off road track riding to a road bike, so I thought I would put the TTR back on the road.  New tyres, new this and that, just about ready to go, but I just decided to replace the spag clutch that has been worring me for some time.  I just ordered it today.  I hope the bike rides OK on the road as she is getting old now and since I got her she has been used doing track work only.  Good bike though.

Regards Phil

I also have a Moto Guzzi Stelvio for long haul road work.

Welcome to the TTR forum, StelvioPhil.

Your old 4GY1 model is six years younger than mine so there must be plenty of life left in it if you keep off the Guzzi for long enough. biggrin

Sprag clutches are not cheap, are they? confuse
I hope you find it makes your "old" bike better for the road.

You will have to keep us all informed of the progress and results. wink

Martyn

Thanks Martyn
Maybe I got the prefix wrong, but I was under the impression the 4GY1 were the first batch of TT-Rs, I believe mine is a 1993 (it is K reg anyway). It is certainly grey import as the frame label is all in Japanese.

I have the starter cover off and flywheel bolt off, just need to knock up a puller at work this week. The only thing I am worried out is the state of the gear teeth on the starter shaft. They are still there, but the edges are are little chipped, how much damage can this stand do you think. I will post a picture later.

Cheers Phil
OH my Guzzi has also gone wrong with major clutch failure, not for discussion here maybe. Shame, I rather like the bike.

The rear axle is the same thread and will get the flywheel off for you.

I found a M18 fine thread bold at work that did the job, saves taking the axle out. Job all done now, new sprag clutch fitted, the starter pinion has a few minor chipped teeth but is serviceable, all others looked good, all bearings ok. Funny, I found half a broken tooth lodged in the starter case, various chips and scrapes in the flywheel suggests a gear has let go in the past.
