as my bike is fairly new to me the previous owner cobbled up a rubber flap type thingy bob to protect the rear shock which worked fine until the fitting of a new ac10 tyre which after a ride in the peak district is now destroyed,

my question is can you get a replacement or is it a Yamaha part only ?

Ive tried polisport etc but no luck, can anyone help cry

ps its a blue 2003 model

I am pretty sure it is a specific TTR part and I haven't come across an after-market version.

MT43s are the best tyre for destroying the mudflap disbelief

To be honest, if you cut the damaged portion off and sit on the TTR I am pretty sure that you will find the remaining section will meet the swing arm which means that the shock is being protected.

How many "used" inner tubes have you got? wink

I repaired my mudflap by cutting a section of old inner tube to the required shape and fixing it to the mudflap in an extension.

Holes punched through both pieces can be used to "stitch" the pieces together. smile

Also, I have heat welded a portion of plastic washing up bottle, suitably fashioned, by using an old electric soldering iron. It's ugly but who sees it? confuse

thanks for the replys guys
i thought as much brian i'm just scared to ask my local yamaha for a price lol
the last one i priced ( wr450f ) was £49.99 gulp but i got an acerbis for £14.99

cubber the previous owner had used two extra h/duty pieces of tube but the peaks stones get trapped in the tread and soon rips it apart but never mind it looks like a trip to the yamaha dealer hmm

Mine wear holes in too...i get a roll of black gaffa tape and just patch it up (both sides)....it wears out again after a few rides but it's better than paying £15 for an Acerbis one!

I too have a big hole in mine due to the previous owner letting it getting chewed up from an aggressive tire that was too close. I just ordered an Acerbis universal one for my ttr250. Part number came out of a GAMA parts book ( in Canada) and is $29. Part # 38-00400. I'll let you's know if it pans out.

Not sure why so many people seem to be having this trouble, why not lengthen the chain 1 link so it does not do that?

The WR400/WR250/WR426/YZ250/YZ400/YZ426 and up to 2003 seems VERY similar. I think the shape may be slightly different but I will check in the morning.

If anyone in the UK needs a mudflap then we stock the genuine Yamaha item - see here

The part is unique to the TTR and is part # 4GY-21642-00-00

Sure is Brian, the YZ/WR one will NOT fit! Just checked and the TTR mudflap has a 45 degree angle where it bolts on (unlike WR/YZ) and is quite a bit wider than the WR/YZ mudflaps. In addition, the holes do not line up (but that is not the problem).

Brian's price sounds quite reasonable given the quote that oldmickeyboy was given.

Nice work Brian!

When I put a new chain and sprocket set on my bike a while back I mad sure there was plenty of clearance there

And as Jarrah says just add a couple of links

As an update: the Acerbis universal guard I got doesn't fit all that well. Even with the rear tire pulled back to its maximum wheel base, it will still rub due to its arche.
