I just spoke to a really nice guy on the phone who was selling me a pair of TTR side panels. Why did he have TTR panels for sale?

He had his TTR up for sale in Northern California.  He got a phone call from a potential buyer, she was very nice on the phone, they made an apointment.

A very attractive woman showed up, asked all the right questions - was even quite "flirty" as he put it. She told him about all the other bikes she had owned , how she wanted a TTR, She haggled a bit, price was agreed, then she asked for a test drive. Off she went..... after about 15 minutes he bacame a little worried she had been in an accident. After 30 minutes, he called the police. He walked out of his house to where her car was parked, it was gone also.......

Never saw her, the TTR or the car again. It was not insured.

I HATE when those things happen.

How annoying. Was she prepared and rigged up in motorcycling gear, with helmet? confuse

If not then she must have an accomplice. evileye

Strange people abound to be sure. They're everywhere as well as Northern California. cry
Before I let anyone sample my machine alone, without chaperone, I would like to think I'd be more careful and ask for some token of faith. Her car keys, perhaps. hmm

I hope the theft was reported to the authorities.

I think the clever thief would be prepared for that and have a set of useless keys which they would be happy to trade for your bike blankstare

Fair point.

I don't think I will be in a similar position in the foreseeable future.

Last time I sold a bike it was collected on a trailer and I had the cash in my hand before it was loaded.

The police said someone probably walked up and got in the car. btw 3 or 4 times with a car and at least 2 times with a bike sellers have offered me a test drive without them. It had never even occured to me prior to hearing this that people do this stuff........
I guess we can all learn from things like this........

My friend was selling an '05 YZ250f type machine recently and got a call about coming to see the bike, they were no longer interested when they found out they wouldn't be seeing the bike where it is garaged, ye olde come back and get it later for nothing trick I think. I think it's worth checking the rego sticker tallies with the number plates as plates are an easy swap, see and maybe hold onto their drivers licence. I meet people in a public place and show them my ID so they feel more secure that I am the legal owner or a legitimate buyer, has worked so far.
