Hi JP,

Have a look at the replacement pipe here http://www.joatmoa.co.uk/ttr250/exhaust.htm

It's on my wishlist.

Hello all

I'm JP, a rapidly ageing 34 y/o tinkering fan.

I bought my white open enduro bike 4 years ago. It was in a bit of a state, i wish i'd have taken some 'before' photos.  its a 1996 import that was used off road for the first few years of its life.  I'm well on with the referb, tank is at the bodyshop getting minted up at the moment.

Great to see all the Projects on here,  i only wish i'd found this site before starting it but sometimes trawling through manuals is good for the soul.

My only real dilemma is the exhaust setup on it.  I want to fit a stock pipe, its a bit too loud.  it looks like it has an oversized head pipe and home made straight through silencer.  will i run in to jetting issues? if i just throw one on.

Anyway-

Welcome JP - you'll have to shove a few pictures of your OE on the next few pages - together with the lake-district scenery. wink

As for changing the exhaust set up you will be able to tell if carburettor alterations are needed by the way it performs.

There are a few pertinent pieces in the FAQ pages to assist you (top left hand corner). smile

Hi JP and welcome!

Jetting isn't an exact science unless you can afford a session on a dyno and have range of different jets to try.

In my experience, the TTR is remarkably tolerant of jetting. Best to try your new pipe and see how she runs wink

Thanks Chaps,

Didn't know if i was worrying about nothing with the jetting thing, someone mentioned it to me and got me spooked. I shall carry on.

Pete, that looks like a good option. have you heard a bike running with one fitted?

Photos to follow - My mate has a brilliant workshop at the head of the Langdale valley, very picturesque

What a coincidence, I'm off to langdale tomorrow! I'm climbing with someone who is in the wayfarers club and they have a place called the Robertson Lamb hut which he is staying at. As for hearing one, I haven't but Brian (TTR Fan) was intimately involved with the conception of the aftermarket exhaust and there is a thread on this forum somewhere about the whole thing. Someone got one and polished it up, which looked really good. The reports from people who've got them seem overwhelmingly positive too, I'll get one myself one of these days.

Pete

Fancy that eh! great day to be out on the fells, this wonderful weather makes up for all them dark winter days. perfect for rolling my bike outside in the sun to take a photo. unfortunately I cannot upload the photos on here, I've tried to make them smaller but to no avail. I have put them on the facebook ttr page if you want to have a look.

Those exhausts look good. when I'm feeling flush I'll give them a bell and order one.. I'm still crying from the tyre bill..

Cheers jp

Looks like you have a CRD shorty header on there jp - you may still be able to read their logo on it if it hasn't been over polished.

Thanks Brian,

Would the Motad replacement fit straight on that header? I can't see a logo or markings.

I really hate that tail pipe on it. I think it ruins the bike.

If it is the CRD shorty then any TTR250 silencer will fit it - including the Motad one.

I understand from Andy that the batch curently on order from Motad will all be polished but that will be reflected in a slightly higher price. I am hoping to get my hands on a polished version for my project bike wink
