Fitting Dakar High bars
Permalink

I removed the bent up bars fitted to my `new` bike and have begun to fit new Rental Dakar High bars (code 613) along with some second hand risers I picked up off ebay. I ordered the longer clutch and throttle cables from Brian and Trish over the weekend (hope the flu is on the way out Brian!) and they arrived today with a few other goodies I have to fit.

The risers are pretty darned high so it will be interesting to see what they feel like. Fitting the new cables is a simple job. I had to re-route the electrical cables from both controls as they were straining on full lock, but that is simply a case of tracing them back to the connector under the tank, disconnecting it, pulling it back up and out from the bar end, then finding an alternative routing. I will have to double check them after re-fitting the tank. I won`t do any more until I get the front wheel back in after having new bearing fitted at the weekend.

There huge ! be interesting to see how the riding position changes

What's that round thing in the middle of the risers ?

I read that higher bars make it more comfortable and controlable when standing

I knew somebody would ask that! It is a switch for some extra bulbs that somebody had fitted in the front light bowl. I have absolutely no idea why!

The risers are about 3" I reckon. 2" would probably be about right but I will give it a go and see how it feels. If it is too high I will just remove the risers

I'm sure I'm wrong, but I would have thought that with the 3" rise, and the riser bars, the clamps wouldn't be strong enough to keep the extensions upright?

I don`t forsee that being an issue. The clamps  under the greatest rotational force will be the original clamps that the risers are bolted to. The moment of that force will be identical to that of a one piece set of bars that finished at the same height.

I will willingly bow to your knowledge. I just thought there would be more leverage on the clamps the risers attach to. I suppose you could say that I was right, in that I was wrong :)
