Hi,

Out of interest before I change my original 1994 Raid gearing (14:48) to new shiny bits from Totally TTRs (13:48) I decided to obtain an acurate GPS measured top speed.

I got my Tom Tom wedged in the instrument gap and drove on a bypass near me which has about 2 miles between roundabouts, straight and not too far off level.

I got 68mph one way and 72mph the other, giving an obvious and nice round average 70mph. I that OK for a 94 Raid?

That was in 5th gear, as the engine lacks the power to accelerate any further in 6th, in fact in one direction the speed started to drop off when I changed up.

I am wondering whether, since dropping a tooth on the front will allow me to use 6th more, I will get a higher top speed or not? I will probably find out on Saturday as I hope to have swapped the chain and sprockets by then.

i found that when i went from 14 to 13 it kept the same top speed, but got there quicker.

I have now GPS'd the 13:48 setup and the top speed (mph) was 76 one way and 73 the other giving an average 74.5 which is crazy since I have lowered the gear ratio! It just goes to show that the bike was definitely underpowered for the gearing as was. I wonder if the 263cc piston kit would make the difference for the original gearing? With the new gears at top speed the bike is screaming its nuts off so I wouldn't want to take it very far at speeds of over 60 mph.

Out of interest, the displayed digital kph were
35 at 20mph
55 at 30mph
75 at 40mph
95 at 50mph
115 at 60mph
135 at 70mph
Which is nice and easy to remember, phew!
