why remove any of the top of the snorkel???

just wondering if someone could explain why someone would remove the whole snorkel, when technically wouldnt removing ONLY the bottom half that isnt visible from the outside of the air box give more breathability, whilst keeping the curve on the outside to deter water?

im thinking that having only the top snorkel bit there wouldnt really restrict much, but all the part that you cant see that goes in the box would a little bit.

thoughts anyone?

Hi I did both cutting back 2 joints on the top and the same inside I also fitted the K and N filter at the same time so didn't check between each mod,if you are going to change the filter try that first then cut the inside see how much difference it makes,I took my info from thumpertalk and they had worked out that removing it altogether gained no more power (actualy slightly less)than cutting the snorkel as I have previously mentioned so I was using someone elses experience to guide me,the mods I did made quite a noticable difference the bike was much more lively but did run quite lean i am rejetting very shortly.see picks of my mods below hope this helps

Dave.

thanks for that. that is what i thought, i dont really think the couple on top would affect, more the long bit that was inside would have hindered the breathing of the bike. what year model is your bike, im told the new ones like mine have the different jets and dont need to be rejetted.
