Hi all, after a sticky plunger I took the top of my front res, it looks like it hadn't been off for a while, one of the skrews wouldn't budge and ended up getting a little mangled so had to drill it out.
it gets worse
I lifted the lid to find a gellatineaus green/brown layer so sucked it worst out (syringe not mouth) and needed to give it a decent clean out and flush,
My problem is the little thin slither if metal the covers the holes at the bottom, well I used to have one of those boy can those things fly.
After a reasonable search around the man cave I decided I may as well try and source a replacement, any ideas from where?
And when it goes back in, does it curve up or down? and how important is in the first place?
Help and advice as ever, welcome and appreciated.

Par for the course Andy
Quite why these screws corrode in so well is beyond me
Anyways up, I have sourced some stainless replacements which are properly countersunk but with Allen heads so they don't strip out. Hopefully no further problems and I think I will go through my bikes and fit the new screws before I get a problem.
Hi Brian, I ordered a couple of spare skews from Bridge for a couple of pounds (maybe they are gold plated) but any ideas in the metal strip inside the res?

Hi Martyn, thanks for the schematic, it's the bit that isn't there (It's a Raid, so don't know if that would make a difference?) it looks to be a purpose made part and from memory appeared to be about 10mm wide max 0.75mm thick and curved slightly with most resting just above the bottom (covering the two holes at the bottom) I didn't imagine it as when it flew out with my deft skrewdriver extraction I had a nice sraying of stale brake fluid. If I find it over the weekend I'll post a piccie of it, with the chap who had it and didn't touch the brakes I guess he wouldn't have added a mod. I guess this may answer my question as to do I need it! (everyone else got those holes open to elements so to speak) Ta

crumbs, thanks Brian, smashing stuff. Thankfully I have located that slither of metal (I wont say how long it took me, but the garage has never looked tidier!)

I know that this is an old thread but I thought I could help anyone doing a search... that plate with the v-notches simply stops brake fluid being squirted up out of the reservoir while you're bleeding the brakes with the lid off. It simply presses in and wedges in place. I found this out by removing it and then squirting brake fluid all over my glasses (luckily) which looking in to the reservoir while pulling the lever ;)
