Steve Parish is an ex-TTR250 rider and has some wonderful adventures in the Australian wild.
See his blog page http://steve.businesscraft.com for a ride he did on the weekend at the Zig-Zag Railway near Lithgow NSW - if this interests you. Makes me a bit jealous to be honest.....
I had cleaned and readied my TTR for a trail today - aqualung, flippers and spare snorkel packed, rudder and bowsprit affixed so I went to the filling station to top up.
It started lashing it down just as I was putting the cap on the fuel tank, having brimmed it with £5.50 of Tesco's best, this was at 10:40 for an 11:00 start.
I made the start and arrived as a sodden, dripping sponge figure. The run leader was stood at his door - "Didn't you get my PM?"
Apparently the other, most senior and exalted, rider had been in contact and in lieu of the weather had to cancel his participation.
The run leader, obviously in a cleft stick, asked if I wanted to go trailing. I said that I was keen but he said that the weather may get worse. I mean!!! - I couldn't get any wetter but he had only just got out of bed.
Discretion being the better part of valour I elected to remove my wet gear and partake of coffee and biscuits - the run was cancelled.
Sadly I returned home and parked up. My wife had prepared pasties, flapjack and buns in readiness for our return and when I said it was OFF I had a sumptuous meal.
Although the weather did fair up after lunch the ride would have been at best damp. As it is my gloves are still moist and I only travelled at most 10 miles.
In hindsight it was much better to have called it off and I look forward to the next ride.
