I've just bought a TTR and pick it up next week - can't wait!!
I've ridden a road bike for many years and fancied trying somthing different - so plan to do some trail riding this year. I will be joining the Northumbia TRF pretty soon.
Looking forward to getting the bike and taking it for a spin - any other TTR owners in Northumberland fancy showing a newbie some suitable trails when I get it?
Glad I found this forum - a wealth of useful info on here!!
When you pick your TTR up next week you will be venturing into a different world from "road biking"
If you want to know a few "green lanes" in Northumberland then I could point you in the right directions. Where's your base?
I used to organise and run the VMCC Colonial Run and take vintage "trail" bikes all around Hexham, Tyne Valley and even North Yorkshire. There are plenty that would amuse a TTR.
Despite having riden bikes for more years than I care to remember I have never changed a tyre myself. Until last weekend that is.
My new TTR needed a new front, and the guy I bought it from had included a new tyre, so I decided to have a go myself. No problem getting the wheel off, and the old tyre off the rim. Of course I nipped and punctured the inner tube when putting the new one on .
A new tube and a bit more care and I got the tyre on the rim on the second attempt with no mishaps - it took a while though, not sure I'd be happy doing it in the cold wet and mud of a field in the middle of nowhere!
I did realise though that the wheel spanner in the bike's toolkit is the wrong size - so I've ordered a proper sized one from Brian Sussex. That was good to find out!
Now just need to fit some new front pads (also on order from Brian), get the MoT renewed, and she's ready to hit the trails!
Good one Nigel, you'll soon get the hang of it. I'll al;so be changing my front tyre, but later this week as I'm picking up a Michelin Comp IV tonight. I hope I have as much ultimate luck as you did and be out this coming weekend again. Martyn
Well, no one from the Northumbria TRF was out last weekend, so I went out myself and found a few lanes locally that I could ride (after checking on the OS map and TrailWise that it was OK to do so).
Was great fun and got the bike a bit muddy, although the Wansbeck River crossing washed some of it off.
Made me realise though that it's better to go out with someone who knows their way around the trails, as it was difficult to follow some of them. Also realised that going out on my own might not be the smartest thing to do....
Should be an organised ride next Sunday - hope I can get a day to myself.
