cry I am asking onn behalf of a good friend, who also has a TTR 250.  He can't get the starter to turn over, even though the the battery is charged.  This problem just seemed to happen without warning.

Any ideas as to what he might do to solve this problem?

Can be a number of things causing the problem:

  • Starter button can give trouble - my bro' has to press his quite a few times to make a connection sometimes
  • Solenoid
  • Starter motor bushes
  • A bad connection in the starter circuit

Although not recommended, a quick check to eliminate a starter motor problem is to take a wire straight from the +ve on the battery to the insulated terminal on the top of thestarter. Bit awkward to get at so be very very careful!

TT has ths list of possibilities:-

1. fuse
2. battery
3. starter motor
4. starter relay
5. main switch
6. kill switch
7. transmission neutral switch
8. clutch lever neutral switch
9. starter switch

In that order

Then the rider who posed the starter problem discovered this:-

After doing some testing with a test light I finally found the problem. The contacts in the start switch were a little corroded. Cleaned them up with some sandpaper and it starts fine now. Thanks for the input.
