Help Replacing valve guide seals
Permalink

Hello i purchased 4 new valve guide seals for my 2000 Australian TTR250 due to it smoking on startup, Now what i need to know is, Do i need to remove the head to access the valves or it is possible to just replace the valve seals without removing the head and cam chain?

I have already removed the 3 allen head bolts on the top and it seems the only way to access the valves is to remove the cam chain + Head.

Any help is appreciated

Thanks.

I think it to be wise for you to remove the head to replace the valve seals, Adam.

The seals grip the valve stem and the top of the valve guide, which means removing the valve cams, spring keep, collets, springs, etc.

Brian's article HERE is very comprehensive and tells you how a cylinder head is removed.

Before you start it would be wise to read the article and aquaint yourself with all the requirements like gaskets, tools and information/knowledge.

Good luck.

Martyn
