Ah yes but... if you get a puncture on the trail then the tyre is usually warm and supple from being run flat(tish), it will be well lubricated with mud and there will be a big incentive to fix it quickly so that you and your mates can get riding again - usually also plenty of volunteer help for just that reason
Great video, shame I coughed up a valve puller this morning! My stomach is more than a match for shoving that valve through (And now I see how those rim nuts/locks work) Roll on tomorrow (if I wake up feeling brave) BTW has everyone in Devon seen poor old Bob whip his back wheel off (He does it at an impressive rate these days)

Back to Tyres- Could I use either vaseline (or other make of petroleum jelly) or just a bit of general purpose grease to help slip the bead over?
And I've heard mixed reports on bothering with the talc (other than makes ur bike smell nice )
I would avoid anything with a petrol-based solvent in that might damage the tyre and tube over time. It would also remain in the tyre/rim joint and might contribute to the tyre slipping on the rim even with a rim lock fitted. That said, it wouldn't hurt to use a spray of WD40 if you had nothing else to hand. Whatever you use needs to "dry out"....
Talc works well (and smells nice) as apparently does window cleaner although the latter dries a bit too quickly.
I used to use Fairy Liquid until I learnt that it had a high salt content that ate into aluminium rims
