Hi guys,

I have taken the plunge and bought a 1994 TTR Raid so as to go out with my mate who has a WR250. I absolutely love it, and have got a bit of laning done along with a lot of road miles since I got it a couple of months ago.

It needs a bit of TLC but I think that was reflected in the £650 price which didn't seem too bad, to say that it starts and runs fine, and has six months tax and test left on it.

It does make a worrying clunk/bang sometimes when I turn it off, so having read the excellent TTR website I understand I'm probably in the market for a new starter motor ASAP.

Other than that, I would like to pimp it a bit with new grips and handguards and a better headlight (the bulb in at present is a 15 watt tealight), whether that is a better bulb or a Polisport unit I'm not sure yet.

I think also, having been told that my chain and sprockets are a bit knackered, that I might go to a 14/52 set up, as I can currently do the 110kph odd top speed in the top two gears.

So much to do, so little time (and money!)

Regards, Pete

I should add that I'm from Keighley West Yorkshire (but don't hold that against me!)

Ey up Pete, lad!
Tykes gereverywhere, yerno.

Welcome to the TTR site where you will find how to change the dreaded sprag clutch that you suspect being noisy!

I'm from South Yorkshire - Stannington (now part of Sheffield) but moved to Devon, the trail capital of England 18 months ago.
I hope you enjoy your Raid as much as I do my blue TTR.
Martyn

Welcome to the forum and TTR ownership Pete!

We are here to help and advise biggrinbiggrin

As a priority, I would get that sprag clutch replaced before it damages the starter gears and/or starter pinion cry

Martyn, Daz; glad to think about you spreading the queens English around the world! Nice to hear from you, thanks for taking the time to say hello. I fell into TTR ownership but there seems to be a nice community spirit between owners.

Brian; you and me will be best mates by the time I finish sorting my bike out! I am sure I will make a significant contribution to your yearly takings... Seriously though I have had a good look through all the info you''ve put up and its an incredibly detailed, valuable and useful resource for anyone who has a TTR and for you to source all the parts and goodies you have means hours and hours of time and effort saved by others. In my opinion you deserve to get a huge amount of credit for it, because whilst you obviously need to make some money from it your passion for the bikes shines through. I'll be in touch with a shopping list, but to start with where can I get a sprag clutch???

Replacement sprag clutch

Hi Pete

The sprag clutch is an expensive part. Just over £170 retail plus p&p in the UK from the likes of MotoWard (Martin on the spares counter is an absolute star!).

A lot cheaper from theStates - see http://www.motosport.com/dirtbike/oem-parts/YAMAHA/2006/TTR250/STARTER-CLUTCH but remember that you have to add the cost of shipping to the UK, plus Customs & VAT will be charged at 20% on the cost of the part AND its shipping cost, plus about £8.50 Parcel Force charge if they send via USPS.

I haven't bought from Motosport but Boats.net can take up to 3 weeks inc the delay in Customs at Heathrow  cry

But you may be luckier wink

Brian

Tnaks Brian you are a legend. I've sent an email over the pond as their "computer says no" website said they wouldn't ship overseas.
