rubber carb boot manifold to carb....OMG!!!! what a state

The bike has been cutting out in what I would call not to deep water..I have had it in much deeper water that this many times and with no probs. I went to my friends bike shop today and we went through checking a few things and on squirting wd40 around the carb manifold interface it started to cough and splutter so we knew it was sucking in air through the boot. On taking the carb off and inspecting the boot,,,, OMG it was to put it politely

---- king knackered

I looked on the internet an damn their expensive...

So we took the rubber boot of the ally carb maifold and started  scratch what hair I have left off my head. My friend said if we could find some sort of heavy duty rubber tube we could doctor one up. So off we went to the local car hose shop and low and behold we found with the help of the shop girlie a hose with the perfect size for slipping over the ally manifoldand and it had a reduced  flange on it that when we cut it to size fit perfect and I mean PERFECT. The hose was for a radiator  on an Izuzu pickup. The hose cost me about 7 quid english, and after conecting everthing back togerther it ran perfect until I put it back in about 30 ish CM of water and it still cut out. urhghghghghghghgh.

Anyone have any ideas on why its cutting out all the help i can get would be great...I have checked the carb now that looks all OK checked the pluch cap and lead that looks ok any other bits I'm missing??????

Cheers Daz

If worn, could be seals on choke pump or other moving parts ( had this issue on my old xt).. Or possibly electrics dont like water

Are the one-way valves on the carb breather tubes (the ones that hang down on either side from the T pieces) fitted and working OK? If not, they may be allowing water to be pulled into the carb.

30cm of water wouldn't even reach the carby but a splash of water running down the spark plug lead may do it

I would try this:

Start the bike and while it's running spray some water from the garden hose onto and around the carb

if it's still running OK then try again around the spark plug

WAter is your problem so use it to find the problem

Good luck
