Lin, I've not seen any inflatable cushion inserts used in this neck of the woods, and I think the TTR seat is more than big and comfortable enough compared with other trailies.
As the trail riders hereabouts don't really spend a lot of their riding time sat down I don't imagine there would be a need for them.
We like riding on rough, steep, rutted, muddy trails and tracks and invariably spend more time stood on the footpegs to better balance the machine.
Perhaps NZ riders have further to travel or ride a tad differently from us, or have softer derriers?
Air Hawk cushions are the absolute business. Have used one for the last 3 years on European trips on a GS and it's a magic carpet ride. The trick is to putt very little air into them as too much will make you seasick - honest. Tend not to use it on short journeys but wouldn't leave home without it on a long trip.
Thanks for the reponses. misternice it's good to get some first-hand info, buying something on eBay then finding it's useless is almost as painful as my butt after 4hrs in the TTR saddle.
Cubber our TTRs are in the Philippines and we primarily use them for long distance touring. As you say the seats are much better than the average trailbike and we find them quite ok when we trail ride because we are mostly on the pegs. However, we also ride long distance on Philippine highways and secondary roads (and some jungle tracks) so it's a bit like a mix of touring and enduro riding. Believe me, it matters not whether one has an NZ or UK butt, in 34deg after eight hours on the bike you begin to wish your butt belonged to someone else.
