Keith, mine have never needed looking at so I'm sorry that I can't give first hand info.

The first port of call has to be the internet - try good old Google.

The second port of call is wait till someone here who's done it before can advise you.

Good luck. wink

my local dealer had a swap over scheme where you bring them your old shims and they replace them for a couple of $ rather then paying an arm and a leg for brand new ones. maybe this is an option?

The other thing is make sure you know which ones you need. there is a table in your ttr250 manual that tells you how to work it all out. this then lets you buy the specific ones u need instead of buying a whole kit. the book should tell you how to do it all. (which i believe is somewhere on this forum?)

good luck

Shim kits are very expensive - see http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/HotCams-Valve-Shim-Kit-CRF-YZF-450-Motocross-Size-9-48-/140444133152?pt=UK_Motorcycle_Parts&hash=item20b31f6720#ht_1661wt_952 for an example.

Best to measure your existing clearances before stripping the head. Then you can order exactly what you need. sometimes it is possible to save buying a shim by swapping them between the valves.

It is usually best to drop into your friendly local bike repair shop and scrounge the shims. Otherwise they are just over £2 each on eBay - it's the 9.48mm OD ones you need.

I think the valve stem oil seals are about £7-8 each  from MotoWard (01402 823222).  They will probably do your shims as well which will save on postage costs.
