Hey guys, I bought this '05 TTR a few weeks ago for $1300 USD. Pretty good deal, because it looks to have been ridden very little, with the usual wear points showing here and there. The plastics were a little beat up, so I put new ones on it, and removed all the OEM graphics except for the YAMAHA stickers.
I found some good looking black vinyl applique with a carbon fiber look, and made a tank cover finish with a round tuning fork gel sticker to finish it off. Also did the headlight white vinyl (it was scratched up) with the black vinyl.
Also, I recovered the seat with some grippy black vinyl in place of the blue which, again had some small rips in it.

I also installed a Mikuni flat-slide 34mm (TM-34) which is shown here:
Today I rejetted it with a 142.5 main and a 45 pilot. Took a short ride, and it runs very well, seems a lot perkier!

Also, I raised the forks almost 3" in the triple clamps, but that required some handlebar offset mounts. They raise the bars 1" and move them back 1" so the fork tubes can be raised. Also installed a 2" Kouba lowering link for the rear end. The bike still sits pretty high (for what I'm used to) but is very easy to touch down to ground with your foot in slow going in the woods. Perfect now for me.
You'll also see I dumped the OEM fork gaitors because they were all wadded up especially with the lowered forks and looked ****e. I put on some 43mm wiper boots (old scjhool) and they look great to me. I don't ride much in the mud, so the forklegs won't see much grime. That's about it for now!
The carbon fiber look vinyl brings the TTR up a treat. Might also be worth cutting some out to protect the frame where your boots rub. I have at long last (well my mate SteveH actually) managed to source some stick on vinyl like that of a decent thickness to try out instead of frame guards.

PS Did the Mikuni slot right in or did you need an adapter?
Thanks very much... the camera is a Canon SX20IS. Great and inexpensive camera that has a 20X optical stabilized zoom, also shoots 720p HD video w/ stereo sound too.
The Mikuni 34mm slips right in to the stock rubber boot. I went with a UNI pod filter behind the side cover. Pretty sure you can keep the stock airbox connection too. I left the airbox there (minus the rubber hose to the carb) because it holds the ECU and the shock mud-flap, etc. Doesn't weigh that much so I kept it in place. Actually now can be a good water-tight compartment to stash stuff like a few tools, small compressor, a sandwich, etc.
The TM34 jetting as delivered is too big so ordered some jets on eBay (140 main, 42.5 pilot) and it runs great now. I was just tired of fiddling with the oddball Tekei carb.
It is very tidy. Does everything stay clean and pretty in California?
Thanks, it was not so pretty when I got it but it looks quite decent now. I use a pressure-washer to clean my bikes up after a dirty (mostly dust here) ride. A 2 minute washdown keeps the bikes looking like new.
Takes longer to clean me up, and no... I don't use the pressure-washer on me!
wow!!! i'v only heard about hot girls in califonia :P good to knw there are beautiful bikes. BTW is it legal to drive without signal lamps and mirrors?
Oddly enough, The TTR250 was never sold as a street-legal bike here in the United States. Off road only, although it can be licensed for the street if you install a horn, signals, brake light, non-resettable speedometer and ODO, and jump thtough all the legality hoops with the DMV. I have several street bikes, so this one is dirt only.
Looks good, the black on the side of the tanks flows through nicely from the seat. I need to put some black on my front mudguard as when its dark the headlight reflects back up badly, glaring and reducing night vision significantly. I take it you used carbon effect vinyl, any particular type? Is it the stuff you get from car improvement shops? Cheers, Pete

That is a nice TTR you have there, nice work on the decals too!
It is a shame to see such a nice TTR250 using a pod filter. They do not trap the dust anywhere near as well as the oiled type and water is a big NO-NO! Not to mention that they are exposed to the elements. Using an oiled filter is a must if riding offroad IMHO.

I assume it has a single throttle cable because of the tm34?? If possible could you tell me where the cable came from or what brand it may be? I bought the same carb for my bike but am having trouble with the throttle setup. Where it switches from the push pull type to the single I can't find the right setup and have already bought parts that are not going to work and would like to avoid wasting anymore money. Any info you could give would e greatly appreciated. Thanks
