It explains what the letters and numbers stand for. confuse

TTR tyre sizes depend on what you use your TTR for, like trail rides, road work, hooning, etc.

Generally, the British rider uses them for "green laning" and the occasional trip to town and back. We find that the standard tyres are OK for this and most riders in Devon use a 400x18 rear and 300x21 front.

hi people

i'm due to replace the rear tyre ( ac10 ) ive got a 110/100-18 on at the moment

whats the widest tyre someone has had on without problems ?

its a 2003 model

Hey Mickeyboy, the first thing is different manufacturers make there measurements differently, some measure from the case and some from the knobs

I just bought 2 new tyres, Dunlop 606

A 120/90/18 which is a bit wider and taller than the 130/80/18 Michelin that is on there ATM and a 90/90/21 on the front.

Again the same with the front, the new one is a bit wider and taller

if you wait a few days I'll post some pics, I'm installing new 14/52 sprockets and chain at the same time

Brian, have you ever used an ac10? Just wondered how they compared to the mitas. Ive got the michelins currently, but not sure what to replace them with!!

i fancy trying a co2 in the ttr

i had a 2005 xt660r i used for road and greenlaning and fitted a co2 rear and a c19 on the front and my god they were lethal on the road but off road they were great and didnt wear out too much and i got every where i pointed it off road

the ac10s were better on the road and i had no issues with the front unlike most reports and was good in the peak district but my word do they wear quick

i'm currently on ac10 rear and a gritty front, these were on the bike when i bought it, the gritty is rubbish on the hard loose limestone rock and seems to be loosing its knobbles quickly and seems to float rather than bite in but its great in the mud

I think 120/90-18 is the biggest you will get away with on the rear!

The original Dunlop was 4.60-18 63P (D605) on the rear and 3.00-21 51P on the front (D605F).

thanks for reply,are you saying the bigger the tyre the better,my friend on his serrow has 90/90/21 and 120/90/18 and was going to use these sizes as simaler bikes,cheers

Oh no - definitely not! It is always possible to fit smaller sizes and I was just trying to identify the largest size that you can sensibly fit on the rear of a TTR250.

ok thanks for advice,will probably go for a slightly smaller tyre, which is only a minor issue as have to sort the leaky base gasket next week and anything else i may find that needs doing,cheers

The highest size probably be 120/100 or a 130/80, I do not know for sure but if you can add a 110/100 and a 120/90, I do not see because a 120/100 can not be added. Now I use a 120/90, one Dunlop D952 and I had before a 110/100. Only one tip, you can not add the 110/100 with a 14-52 and 112 links, you will need at least two more links.
