Eyup fellow TTR people.

I bought mine yesterday, not knowing anything about them, although now reading about it, it looks like it's going to be exactly what I want.

I got it 'cos me and a friend decided to do a little green laning around Derbyshire, on a budget. He set the budget at £830, by going and getting a KLE 250 disbelief, so I went on e-Bay, found a TTR, put in £830 and left it to run it's course; I 'won' it for £730, then it cost me £70 in diesel to fetch it, then £30 on a curry for my mate whose van we used, result.

So, now I'm off to take it apart and 'fettle' it, service it then get out on the rough stuff.

I'll try and join in.....

Welcome Steve!

Good price for the TTR - guess it was this one http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=320738809640&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT#ht_914wt_1139 ?

Just make sure the sprag isn't banging on switch off. Otherwise its the usual dirt bike items to check such as swing arm and linkage bearings.

If the engine smokes a bit then usually a new set of rings and valve stem oil seals will put it right and give you many thousand more trail miles of fun.

Good choice of bike wink

Welcome from me too, Steve.
Many moons ago I lived in Sheffield - well, on the outskirts - firstly at Stannington then at Dore.
Derbyshire was my stamping ground and I have fond memories of Bamford, Castleton, Edale, Hathersage and especially Stanage Edge.

I'm sure you will enjoy your TTR and find a constant smile on your face.
Martyn

Thanks for the welcome; Yes, that's the one. He was a nice chap, lived in the middle of nowhere, it took about three hours to get there.

What exactly does 'sprag' bang sound like, I think I may have it, is there a cure? But then again I'm sure it will have been covered somewhere on the forum. There doesn't appear to be any smoke, but I haven't run it for more than a couple of minutes so far.

Ta, V much Cubber (Martyn). I live in Dore, have done for the past 15 years or so.

It's yet to put a proper smile on my face, I bought it yesterday at the right price, but I've just spent £150 on it without even trying...

Congratulations - you definitely made a wise decision in getting a TTR - very comfortable and forgiving, but a tad heavy when you fall off as much as I do.

I see you went from Dore to Hexham to collect it, well - here's another coincidence, I moved to Devon a year last April and used to live just about 20 miles southeast of Hexham in a village in Derwentside.
I've run many a trail in Northumberland using the trails around Hexham - smashing place it is.

As they say - "It's a small world" hmm

Welcome to the forum, I am a new member on here and have found this a great place for help and advise. The sprag clutch problem as mentioned is something that I am repairing on my mates ttr, basically there is a clutch behind the flywheel on the engine that wears and if left can damage the starter motor and the idle gears. I noticed my mates was worn from a clunk / bang when the engine is stopped and the starter not dis engaging straight away when starting. This seems to be a very common problem on the ttr's. Anyway on a lighter note it is a great choice of bike, good on road and off! Enjoy!

Nah then. It's been a few months since I joined the TTR clan and I've got to say it's been grand so far...

I've realised I'm not as young as I used to be; I feel the cold quicker and I don't have as much bottle as I once had. Some of the trails I used to ride aren't thoroughfares any more, some of the ones that still legal are now impassable to mortals. I've done more than a thousand kms to date, nearly all off-road, with a few bits of road connecting the trails. The bike's yet to let me down (famous last words), although there's still what I believe to be the dreaded sprag noise.

So hey-ho, I'll get off for the mo and return soon with some photographs of my off-roading experiences so far, all I have to do is figure out how to get them off my phone and onto this infernal machine....

So people, this was my introduction, so I thought it only fitting that I say goodbye. I've had three and a half years with the TTR, done about 10,000 Kms nearly all around the Peaks, in that time it's had a new clutch, exhaust (Motad), bearing kit, front disk, shock rebuild (Gibbs) and a few other sundries.
I'd like to thank you all for the wealth of knowledge and I'd like to thank Totally TTRs for existing.
I've passed my TTR on to a mate for £700, he's well chuffed and I've pointed him in the direction of this site. Ive only sold it 'cos I'm off to the Pyrenees again later on this year, I went last year, on my F800GS, had an unbelievable time and decided when I returned I'd take a smaller, lighter bike, in a van, then decided that the TTR was a bit long in the tooth so I've bought a nearly new but stolen/recovered Beta Alp 4.0, we'll see how it goes...

Toodle pip.
