What an absolute nightmare.

Hi all, it's been a long time since I've been here, In fact it might have been 2019 when I last posted. People with a long memory may remember my bike was in bits for many years.

Well good news TTR fans it's back together.

I think it was around 2011 I bought the bike but couldn't live with the condition so the plan was my Father takes it apart, I get everything nice and he puts it back together. The taking apart happened and that was it.

It sat in his garage years then he had a stroke. Eventually I brought the bike home and found a forum member on here who was willing to rebuild the engine. It's had many many new parts and the engine came back to me around 2017. Again it sat and eventually someone fairly local said they'd build it back up.

So after 15 years of being in bits it's here ..........

That's the good news. It's had thousands spent on it, starts on the button, looks half decent with it's new paint and graphics and overall I was happy until I took it out on it's first adventure which involved riding around the block to see if anything fell off or it didn't stop.

That was it's 1st and last outing. I came back in and the thing is stuck in gear. Not amount of rocking it with engine running, engine stopped, pulling as hard as I dare to try and get it out of gear is doing anything.

So there you have it, a 1 minute ride after 15 years and it's now an ornament again. I think it's time to throw the towel in on this bike.

What a disaster! Can you at least whip the clutch side cover off and see if anything is binding, bent or misaligned in the selector mechanism? You've got this far, you can't give up now!

I agree with Simon - you can't give up now!

It could be something very simple.

Although it doesn't exactly match your symptoms, the gear-change return spring could be the culprit? See here

So, is it rideable in the gear it is stuck in? Just wondering if it might be possible to change gear whilst the bike is in motion.

Presumably the clutch is disengaging fully else you wouldn't be able to start it.......

If you are willing to give it a go (please do!) then we are here to help.

Brian
