Torque setting for Oil Delivery Pipe
Permalink

I have found an oil leak coming from the left side of the bolt and copper washer from the top oil delivery pipe I've looked in the service manual and it says:

oil delivery pipe union bolt M10 x2 20Nm

oil delivery pipe union bolt M8 x1 18Nm

but my bolts are 14mm x1 top bolt and 12mm x2 lower bolts, should I still use the manual or go up a few Nm, and while I'm at it I'll torque the two lower 12mm bolts what should they be torqued to

Ah geez I'm an idiot I didnt look at the manual enough it says about the thread size not the bolt head size, but it says there are two M10's and one M8 the M8 (small thread) would be the top one and the two M10's (bigger thread) would be the lower ones but my bolts are around the other way in reference to bolt size, my one 14mm (bigger thread) is the top and the two 12mm (small thread) the lower???

The torque setting is decided by the thread size, so just go with the recommended torque for the banjo bolt in question irrespective of what position it is in.

Thank you chaps I am moving house soon and I've packed my torque wrenches somewhere so I just tightened them with a spanner and it has stopped leaking I'm going to take the bike to a yamaha store to get a full service soon I think I'll be needing new piston and rings the motors compression is only 120psi I'm using a tester with schrader valves in the thread end that goes where the spark plug goes

I favour the use of Dowty washers for that oil pipe. No need to overtighten then. biggrin
