Engine turns over, but sparks for a few spark flashes then nothing as motor turns over

I have a problem with Spark. (It only sparks for less than a second )

I have removed the spark plug and left the spark plug lead on and press start, the motor turns over however the spark only last a second then nothing as the motor cranks over.  If I try again nothing.  However if I let it sit for ten minutes I get a spark again then nothing.

I have a manual and have gone through all the Ignition system faults and tests and have found everyreading with in spec, ie Coil primary and secondary coils read correct ohms   The pickup coil and stators read correct, the stop start switches have been tested, the neutral switch light is on, stand switch works. etc

Main switch appears to be good as power runs to lights horn etc

This is on my sone TTR250 (2001)

I have one also and TTR250 (2007)  I have even gone to the trouble of using his componets on my bike  (Coil, CDI ) and my bike starts and runs

I am at a loss to what the problem could be

Any assistance thanks I don't mind retesting componets at your suggestions

Thanks Grahame

Which component makes the difference between starting and not starting, when you swap from your mate's bike? That should give you an idea.

Change the parts over one at a time. When you get a change between a running bike and a dead one, you will know which component is faulty.

with mine it was the pickup fitted wth the stator; to check it there should be a resistance readsing   (can't remember the reading) between the two wires in the separate plug next to the stator plug just under the LH side of the tank.

if it's open circuit or high resistance its most likely to be faulty , Yamaha say the pick up is part of the stator assembly and not available. the pickups are available online as a separate part, i have also seen the DR 650 pick up is the same, i posted pics and fitting of the pickup on here somewhere. ( if the wires are back to front when you hook a new one up it won't work Just swap the wires around)

The stator  pick coil resistance was  reading the correct ohms 230

The battery is good which turns the motor over, and the pickup coil appears to be working, with the correct resistance.

The actual stator magneto genetator wire all read 120ohm across each other

Question if I had a flat battery, (which it doesnt ) I guess the charge that goes to the spark plug coil is gernerated via the magneto coil. Is that how the the spark plug fires?  This is the only part I can't swap out from my other good running TTR

Thanks for all your suggestions so far
