Fork base valve tightening
Permalink

So I've just changed a leaking fork seal and refreshed with new oil.

Now we nipped up the 14mm base valve nut at the bottom of the forks with the idea of fully tightening when the fork is back on the bike.

We can't get the nut to tighten and it sounds like somethings spinning inside to fork.

So a bit of digging and it seems a damper holding tool is suggested? Ive read Brian's tutorial and he suggests just tightening it up?

Ive seen some generic tools on ebay but nothing specific for ttr?  Any links for the appproriate tool please?Im guessing I need the fork out again to tightening?

Help would really be appreciated as I'm running out of summer!!!!!

Many thanks Dave

have you tried a rattle gun (WINDY GUN), impact driver. the nature or the impact action sometimes can tighten them up without a special tool . a little rough but quick biggrin

Yes my friend popped around with a windy which worked.
If anyone is following Briand how to on this you will need a windy or the rod holder tool (home made or bought i could only find bought in the States) to do up the bottom base valve.
If your all was pretty clean I'd be tempted to just leave the base valve an empty the oil through the top.
It would be messy and perhaps not easy to get rid of all the old oil but perhaps easier.
