New to me TTR250

I just purchased a 2001 TTR250 in California. Previous owner said it was originally from Colorado and hadn’t been ridden in about 20 years. That being said, anything I should take care of right now? Tires are old so I know I have to take care of that, carb was just cleaned. Also I heard these bikes come in multiple versions like the regular and a specific California one. How can I be sure of which one I have? My bike also needs that plastic that goes around the headlight but it’s $120 from Yamaha, anyone have a better alternative? I’m open to replacing just the plastic if I can find something for a good price or even replacing the entire headlight unit if that’ll be cheaper. Thank you in advance

Welcome to the forum!
If the bike has been standing a long time, I would change the oil and filter, pump some fresh fluid through the brakes, check the air filter has not disintegrated. The carbs are notorious for being difficult to clean properly once old fuel has gone really bad in them. Not just the jets, but all the tiny ports in the alumin(i)um body of the carb. Check the wiring for mouse damage, new battery, fresh fuel (as low ethanol as you can get) and give it a try!
There are various aftermarket headlights available from Polisport, Acerbis etc that can be made to fit. Baja Designs in Ca might still make a headlight shroud that fits, but their 5" glass H4 headlight unit is sadly discontinued I think.
Somewhere on the forum I think there is a load of info on frame numbers and models, but I can't find it just now.
Enjoy the process!
Simon.
