Strange engine sound
Permalink

Hi. Lately I hear a strange sound in the engine from my TTR250, it is a model from 2005 with over 30000km. One friend (a mechanic) said how it was probable the timing chain but I am not sure. I will try later put the sound here. Mostly I hear it more when the engine starts and it is not specially hot.

If the timing chain is loosing tension, what can I do? or what would you do in a TTR?

It is quite easy to check the timing chain. If this is what you think is causing the noise best to check it first.

See https://ttr250.activeboard.com/t47193200/timing-chain/ and scroll down to my post - about a quarter way down the thread.

Timing chain is easy to check and fix

Also the case saver at the front sprocket can make a racket but only moving

Same goes for the top back engine mount if loose it can sound like a terminal failure untill tightened
